In general, I run with all projects selected on my one computer although I did have a couple of days on the recent beta run. I realise that right now CEP will not be downloaded as I run on Windows. When I look in my BOINC manager, in the list of tasks running and waiting to run it seems as though I have far more of certain projects than others (based on the current active projects)
----------------------------------------For example, when I had a look yesterday I had 8 units in my task list of which 6 were HPF and 2 were HFCC. CCW, HCC & FAH seem to be received much less frequently. In the case of CCW, I crunched to get to bronze (as I always do before reverting back to all projects) but in the last week or so since then I don't think I have received a single unit. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining (I'll crunch whatever units I get) just curious as to why the units I get seem to be unevenly spread over the projects. e.g. HPF 55 days HCC 28 days. |

Very nutshellic, there are X tasks per day limits for each science which the feeder is set to put gradually into the hopper over the course of a day. When a client then asks for work it grabs whatever is in the hopper at the moment in time based on the rules:
----------------------------------------- Exclusive crunchers first served, i.e a C4CW only will get only that. It can thus happen that during moments of the minute one or the other is not there where the feeder only looks in the device profile: "What does host want" and then sends any of that selection thats available in the hopper. It's never been said or inferred, but the projects that have a "normal weight" look to provide as much work as asked for to the "exclusive" crunchers, so if science X runs dry, more is readied as we can't have those sit idle, but generally, when the "if there is no work..." box is ticked, an alternate science task is send, so an "exclusive" cruncher would still see other tasks. Thus, in World Community Grid spirit, "(I'll crunch whatever units I get)" is my personal approach too. If I want to push a specific research I'll select that, so I alternate my profile regularly as many do. at Et Al, please let's not revive the automated "3 science select / 33% each" type of discussions. Can not be done (see posts knreed). cheers and thanks for crunching at WCG.

Thanks Sek. Didn't realise that there had been a discussion on the subject of "3 sciences 33% each" before. I had a search of the forum but I obviously didn't enter quite the right search terms.
----------------------------------------Just had a look at my task list and it looks much more evenly spread over the projects, guess it depends when I ask for work from the feeders. Anyhow, thanks for answering my question, Sek. I doff my cap to you squire! |
