The lowest ranking Guru has completed nearly 31 thousand WU and is nearing 10 years as a member. You talking about me??? ![]() Yes, I'm here for the long haul - despite being made redundant from IBM in 2010 and only just managing to find another full time position (and hence, during that time, the cost of even keeping my one solitary machine crunching was a price I couldn't really afford). Hopefully, once I've gotten my finances back in order, I'll be able to upgrade my hardware and contribute even more. ![]() |

Love that "wall of badges" that you wear qb009761. When I see what you have done, it says to me long term WCG donor and "guru", so congrats!
Appreciate the thoughts theodolite and your analysis. I had not looked at it from that perspective. I'll not belabor things though and will leave it to Snurk to decide what if anything could/should be done. He is such a nice guy and really cares, so even if he wants to leave things "as is" that is also OK with me. |

Let me add an example to support the analysis by texinga. The lowest ranking Guru has completed nearly 31 thousand WU and is nearing 10 years as a member. The highest ranking non-Guru has completed over 3.25 million WU and is coming up on 8.5 years as a member. If we are talking about long-term service, the answer is obvious. If we are talking about experience with WCG and investment of time, a different answer is also obvious. and thanks to both for their investment in WCG. How ironic that you use workunits completed to rank Gurus, when workunits are not used in the Guru equation. |

There are 24 science projects. Plus Beta is 25 total, not 24. Ok, thanks for that clarification. So, if we use the average of 2 WCG Projects added per year, then ole KWSN would make guru in about 3yrs. For myself (at 14 Science and 1 Beta), that accomplishment takes 38 years. I'll definitely be well into my "dirt-nap" by then. ![]() ![]() Using all accumulated Projects count from inception really makes attaining "guru" more of a "Founders in WCG" achievment vs a "guru" in Crunching level. If I look at it from that perspective, then it seems "logical". ![]() Idea: Well, you can still work toward Guru. Just pass it on to your son or daughter or other family member. |

Blade, I can only guess you are just not aware of how ridiculous statements like the one you just made are to people. Rather than engage in a constructive discussion of something, for some reason you seem to choose to ignore or disparage salient thought.
Your response (above) to qb009761 really brought to light that you haven't paid any attention whatsoever to the points raised. I said that I would "drop it" and yet you seem to feel the need to needle people just a bit more for some reason. That is pretty poor behavior and certainly not one that would inspire people to join (or remain) on Snurk's team. |

No. But I was showing you the only way with your account to get to Guru. That was my salient point. Not paying attention??? After I quote who I am replying to, you still get it wrong (hint: It was not qb009761). But I am very sorry if I needled you, because that was not my intent. |

Blade, I can only guess you are just not aware of how ridiculous statements like the one you just made are to people. I did not take that as a ridiculous statement. In fact, it was a revelation to me. As one who is struggling with his own mortality I think it would be an excellent legacy to leave to my children. Thank you for that BladeD. |

Yep, that's the word I was looking for, legacy. You are most welcome! And congrats to you on your 1 billion points milestone! ![]() |
