martin64,
----------------------------------------Although it's far easier to see via SNURK's signature, it is possible to work it out that, at the moment, you'll have a Silver globe. Basically, your total runtime (as the last stats update), was 3:197:03:02:58 = 1292 days/17 (# "Production" projects - i.e., not including beta) = 76 days, and thus, Silver ![]() |

Whilst Guru's are expected to have a Beta badge, maybe in consistency with how the globe is computed, base the % on the project badges. Does that make any difference, to get a 10th guru aboard sooner, or does it work against such big crunchers as brinktastee...? [think it does not].

Interesting thought. Consistency could of course be accomplished in two ways:
----------------------------------------A: Define a Guru as: seniors who have 90% of all project badges, not including Beta. Think your assumption is right that it doesn't make a difference for existing guru's or soon to be guru's. or B: Leave guru as it is, and define the globe as the average runtime over all projects, including Beta. By the way, there is one guru without a Beta badge, look: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewMemberInfo.do?userName=Randomballoon |

IMHO, when someone has a sapphire BETA-badge, he's a Guru too, independant of how many projects or how many elapsed years he has crunched WCG

Guru against one less badge or adding beta badge into the globe average and delay entry for probably more? Globe upgrades can be reached no matter the badge number obtained, long as years accumulated in crunching exceed the thresholds... probably getting into the academic range. I'm not biased either way, but then that's easy for me to say [still] ;>) --//-- |

If one can't get at least a bronze beta badge by the time he or she reaches guru, then they're not really putting forth the effort. Guru is supposed to signify more than just time or computers. It's supposed to indicate an understanding of the WCG system and I feel that beta participation should be included in that knowledge.

KWSN - A Shrubbery, I'm with you on that - in fact, I'd be tempted to go a little further, and stipulate that, in order to become a Guru, you HAVE to have at least a Bronze Beta badge. After all, getting Beta badges nowadays isn't quite as hard as it once was... Yes, by including 18 badges in the current calculation, I'm in danger of loosing my Guru status upon launch of a new project, but I'll just have to put forth the effort in getting a Bronze in the new project(s) which are launched. Needless to say, I will be doing so, and more - a lot more for each new project ![]() ![]() |

After all, getting Beta badges nowadays isn't quite as hard as it once was... I actually like the sound of that. Gurus must: - be member for at least 6 years; - have at least 90% of the science badges (90% of 17 badges that is); - have a beta badge of any color. I think I'll use that. But who's going to tell Randomballoon?? ![]() |
