Windows System log recording many instances of Event ID 10016 since I installed 6.10.58 on a system with Vista 64, which is up to date. Details:
----------------------------------------The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {C97FCC79-E628-407D-AE68-A06AD6D8B4D1} to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool. - EventData param1 application-specific param2 Local param3 Launch param4 {C97FCC79-E628-407D-AE68-A06AD6D8B4D1} param5 NT AUTHORITY param6 SYSTEM param7 S-1-5-18 param8 LocalHost (Using LRPC) Haven't found anything too satisfying at MS to solve this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Paul [Edit 1 times, last edit by pluczka at Sep 9, 2010 3:39:14 PM] |

It looks like a permissions issue with the BOINC service and the system user that's trying to run it. Did you miss a Security Alert with the Block/Unblock choice?
----------------------------------------Here's a kb article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899965 that covers this event. Did you install BOINC in protected mode (or whatever the greyed out option is called)? [Edit 1 times, last edit by pirogue at Sep 9, 2010 12:59:38 AM] |

Thank you, pirogue.
Procedure in kb article worked. I used the default settings in installing 6.10.58. Paul |

Great, would you please insert [RESOLVED] in the OP title.
----------------------------------------Not remembering this one was brought up before on our forums, so will bookmark for later reuse. The BOINC developer forums had a hit on this: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=3279 which suggests a very short and sweet solution. cheers

Thank you, Sekerob.
I would have avoided the problem had I heeded your "FAQ: How to install BOINC as a service (BOINC 6 series) on Windows?", the following in particular: "Note: Since BOINC 6.6, the protected application execution option is no longer set by default. You will have to set it yourself if you want to install BOINC as a service. " |
