OK, so in 60 days BOINCStats has the old host graph gone. I'd imagine that over at QMC you could merge the hosts (yes a pain), a feature regrettably not available on WCG.

In QMC I have only one device (historic, not just "active"). Nothing to merge there.
This seems to affect only the hosts stats. From now on, the old device will remain at around 140K credits, and the new one has 330K and growing. |

Most peculiar. Since QMC and WCG display the issue I'm inclined to think that something is awry at BOINCStats. Using BAM?

I also have this problem and had two new hosts generated on the same day for WCG after the upgrade to version 6.10.58. along with two other projects gerasim and chess960.

Yes, I saw you posting elsewhere (was it at BOINCstats?). I don't think WCG can do anything about it if a 6.10.56 / .58 does that and other projects such as QMC being reported as effected. I looked and can't seem to find anyone has brought this to the Berkeley developers. Was it put forward on their their forum or the Alpha mail list? If not, I'll be most happy to carry it to them, but need to have detail info what happened such as was the installation taking the old data_dir or was it loosing that and a clean start was done and projects needed to download new science software copies and work units?

One of my machines (Saturn) that was using an old recycled hard disk which definitely crashed. I put up a new disk fresh reinstall and voila I have now a new Saturn device.
----------------------------------------With Venus I had also a system crash were I had to reformat and reinstall completely W7. Result a new Venus device. If I use the same host name then it would be nice to keep the old account with the same name. That should not be too complicated. We would avoid having multiple devices for an existing one. ![]() |

Hi Sek, I'd appreciate if you can pass this to BOINC developers, since I've never done it and I don't have the expertise nor I manage all the technical knowledge on the subject. I'll try to explain myself, my english is not that good. In my case, this issue affected a couple, maybe 3 PCs. I'll talk about one of them for now. When you see the list of devices on BOINCstats in "Link to users host stats", each one has an ID. From where does this ID come from I have no idea. It must be a global BOINC id, and if I attach the same computer to multiple BOINC projects, it should keep this same ID. One of my affected hosts has (had) the id 48172. It has been attached to 5 projects: Einstein, Rossetta, SETI, QMC and WCG, but I detached from the first three a long time ago, something that hasn't been a problem for BOINCstats, it keeps the stats from those projects associated with the device id 48172. This is one of my oldest PCs (P4, WinXP 32bit), and I can assure you that I've updated its BOINC version a gazillion times, always successfully. The procedure I follow is very simple: 1) exit the client, 2) launch installer. All upgrades (including 6.10.18->6.10.58) have been "transparent" to the projects attached and WUs in cache. I don't use BAM. After the upgrade to v6.10.58 a new device with ID 8359988 appeared on my hosts list in BOINCstats with all my WCG credit from the "old ID". As an experiment, after several days I restarted QMC (since it was the only other old project still attached to this client). After returning a WU, the story with WCG credit repeated for my QMC credit. I'm pretty sure the same would happen to the rest of the credit if I still had attached the other 3 projects, thus effectively "transferring" all stats from the old to the new host ID. There are no duplicate devices here on WCG or in QMC. For some unknown reason, the entity responsible for giving the "ID" to the machine decided that it needed a new one after the upgrade to 6.10.58, even if the projects still see it as the same old device. Do you know how this ID is generated and managed across BOINC projects? Thank you very much in advance for all the help you can provide on this issue. Remember it's not very important, there are probably more serious issues, it's only annoying when trying to watch historic stats on sites like BOINCstats et al. |

It was through Seti that I got a new id and it seems that it was only seti that gave me a new number do not know if it was cross id or just the seti number as everything seems to be ok except my seti credits

Well, this happened again. I installed the new WCG BOINC version (6.10.58) on a device that had v6.6.36 and as expected, now I have a new host on BOINCstats. This device has crunched SETI, Rossetta and WCG.
Old host id (id=2783209). New host id (id=9867901). The "old" one kept its SETI and Rossetta stats, while the new one got WCG's. Question for BOINCstats (and similar websites) users: I'd like to know, since (i imagine) many of you are updating their v6.2.28 to the new official v6.10.58, if this happens frequently. ![]() |
