is this project not resuming or did i mad a wrong thing?

Hi everyones,
first i apologie for my english... (hope was not too bad, and can be understood)

I explain my problem:
i pass on a linux distro (fedora 13 with a x84_64 architecture) on my laptop smile , so i could take the clean energy calculating.

i receive my first computing part monday.
it start to calculating to 5%,but i need to power off.
i suspend it through boincmgr

When i restart all the computed time "desapear" 0.015% O_o'

Same yesterday 15%
Today 0.15 %

Any idea?

Thanks.
Have a nice day.

FR part:

Merci.

Hello TombStone80,

On your Boinc client, where you clicked "suspend", have you clicked "RESUME" to start the WU again ?

More options when Linux user presses "Join today" button

Hi TombStone80 and welcome on this forum!
We currently have a few pending questions about CPU time management with CEP2, and more specifically with some Linux distros like Fedora.
See this thread CEP2 Quick CPU Processing Times? and this off-topic in More options when Linux user presses "Join today" button

Your case seems to be slightly different and even more annoying but I wanted to signal this problem because even if you wanted to let your computer run without interruption on such a task you might still be disappointed by the granted credits.
Maybe you should stay away from CEP2 until we know more.

TombStone80,

Regarding your problem of lost CPU time when resuming it is unfortunately perfectly normal.
While I was writing my previous post I was moitoring a CEP2 WU with hope to better understand the problem I have described earlier and I could watch that the time between the second and the third checkpoint can ve very long, 1 hour 32 mn in my case with a quad clocked at 3.17 GHz.
As the first two checkpoints are taken very early in the process it is not abnormal that you step down from 15 % to 0.15 % when resuming (although I agree it is not pleasant).

Re: is this project not resuming or did i mad a wrong thing?

Bons calculs. Jean.

Re: is this project not resuming or did i mad a wrong thing?

TombStone80,

As JmBoullier pointed out, after the machine is rebooted, it will continue from the last checkpoint. In this case, the last checkpoint was at the beginning of the work unit, so that is where it resumed from. If you wish, you can turn on logging so you can see check point activity in the messages tab of your GUI client (in advanced mode). This can be done by changing this line in cc_config.xml (from 0 to 1):

<checkpoint_debug>1</checkpoint_debug>

I'm not familiar with Fedora, but on Ubuntu, this file would be in /etc/boinc-client/ by default.

You can also see when a task last checkpointed when you select the running task in the tasks tab and then click the Properties button. The difference between the times "CPU time at last checkpoint" and "CPU time" is the time you'll loose when you stop the Boinc-client or reboot.
