We have made an adjustment to the workunit matching policy. This will now behave in the following way (at a high level):
The general rules are as follows now: Check for high priority work (i.e. resends - and only if the host is a reliable host) - preferred applications only Check for normal work with bandwidth limit - preferred applications only Check for normal work without bandwidth limit - preferred applications only Check for normal work with bandwidth limit - any applications if the user has selected 'send other work' flag on their preferences This change was made in response to requests from users who were reporting having their bandwidth under reported. Once we adopt the BOINC 6.10 client, users will be able to specify the total amount of data that is allowed to be transferred over a certain period of time. Shortly after that is available, then we will update the logic on the server so that users who have set a max bandwidth transfer limit and are using a client that supports it will have the bandwidth speed check skipped altogether. |

Does "bandwidth limit" in the checks refer to size or speed?
----------------------------------------Is it down or up? The reason I'm asking is that I've got my upload speed limited, but not the size or download speed. |

I think it is size of uploads and downloads.

Upload speed affects the effective DL measured by BOINC, so I've got UL limited to 84KB, and DL set to zero which is equal to unlimited.
----------------------------------------Think I put a short FAQ in place some time ago in anticipation. You can limit the MB's per time segment. I've got it set to 350MB DL per day, but you can set it to any volume amount per any number of days. Those on a monthly budget could e.g. set it to 2000MB for every 30 days. The client will stop fetching/returning work when that has been reached. 30 days would not be smart of course as then a task that has a 10 day deadline and having used 2000MB in the first 15 days will cause that job to be reported too late (will not try it to find out if it really does). It will not stop crunching i.e. buffered jobs will be ready for the next tranche of communications. edit: yes, the FAQ: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,29406

I really like this project but I do hope you get us some help from the Mac and MS folks soon.
I have other projects that I run and I am not getting may of their WUs as this project has me swamped. I have, right now, Three WUs from CEP2 and 1 from HFCC running. I have 5 from CEP2 waiting to run. That is it and a good thing as they do take a while. The fact that I have had few errors and do get them in fast is probably not helping my work load on this at all. For once, at least I do not have any repairs qued up. I rarely have one of these WUs on here for more than a day and a half but those buggers with the 4 day due date make me nervous. |

For once, at least I do not have any repairs qued up. I rarely have one of these WUs on here for more than a day and a half but those buggers with the 4 day due date make me nervous. BOINC should start these repair jobs early enough for them to finish much before their due time. However If it still makes you too nervous and if you are running WCG only you might set the "Switch applications every..." to 6000 minutes**. This way jobs with a 4-day deadline will start immediately after downloading. Note the condition in bold: if your client is attached to several grids you should keep that parameter for what it has been designed, i.e. setting how often the client switches from one grid to another. Edit: ** For purists, yes this is a rounded value easier to remember. ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by JmBoullier at Aug 27, 2010 4:48:45 AM] |

Never thought to change that. Makes a lot of sense. Easier than suspending the intervening WUs which is what I have been doing.
WCG is all I need. There are too many interesting things available on it to be able to run them all. Another grid would be way too much. |
