there was a thread yesterday which was about why Obama isn't good for america, which disappeared...
maybe it is a better idea to lock a thread which seems inappropriate or at least notify why it is being locked and which posts are crossing the line and why, so people can (maturely) understand... 2nd, why there are no PM's? |

Hello one out there,
We have been having trouble lately with religious and political threads which seem designed to produce inflamed responses. The Forum Policy at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...ead,27541_offset,0#250567 says: 1) Please help to make the Forums an enjoyable experience for all members 7) Please do not start Flame Wars in the Forums, as this will not be tolerated 8) Please do not reignite inflammatory threads by creating new threads after existing threads on the same topic have been closed We have been discussing this with the staff over on the Community Advisor forum. My personal opinion has been that we should not try to set explicit guidelines for what constitutes offending religious or political posts. Rather, each case should be handled with emailed discussions with the poster and decisions made by the staff on a case-by-case basis. I am not a fan of laundry lists of legalisms. Apparently bbover3 is dealing with such a problem as he sees fit. I am sure that the poster has already received numerous warning notices. Last month we were looking at a thread that kept going no matter what posts we made to the thread and no matter how many emails we sent about it. My guess, and it is only that, is that someone is finding out what the next step is when locking a thread does not seem strict enough. Lawrence |

so you don't spare vacations to people using the forums..?
sometimes it's good where each is saying how he feels about different topics even if the outcome doesn't sound so cheerful to the ear, it is a good thing to open things up and let people discuss they're feelings, even though politic issues can be very tensioned sometimes, the best thing to relieve this tension is to openly speak about it, patiently, this is the only way to bring peace into controversial topics. this is kind of experimental as most forums don't allow such comments or talks, but it is always good to try things again, give them another chance, try new things and new methods, whatever opens people hearts is always the right path, even if at the beginning it can be rough. |

some of those threads they were talking about went viral and very noxious to the bulk of users.. i fully agree on them stopping a flame war before it starts and from what it was about i see a defiant start of flame war and its just not needed here in the World Community Grid.

some of those threads they were talking about went viral and very noxious to the bulk of users.. i see and sorry to hear, that thread did got a bit itchy on it's way, though things can be taken both sides and so it's a shame there wasn't a chance in clarifying anything that might have sounded inappropriate or offensive on anyone, people have to grow up in a sense allowing others to speak they're hearts without trying to claw them, though, i would've taken care of it .but anyhow, people do get vacations on other sites, a week off or something like that, can't see why it wouldn't work here, but i'm just visiting now and then, you guys are staying, so it's your call, banning people is not a good idea either... but anyhow, people do get vacations on other sites, a week off or something like that, can't see why it wouldn't work here, Some people take vacations, others cover for them. Unless a factory is making steel, glass, cars etc., 24/7 coverage is the norm. We really don't like the idea of someone trying to sneak something in during a vacation. Somebody else roving out here should catch an offending thread.

Some people take vacations, others cover for them. hmm, i meant banning people for a week or so for crossing lines, same they do at Anandtech, so people understand they cannot say everything they want here, they cannot curse as they like, and so they have to either respect others or keep away from threads, or getting themselfs a relaxation period... if they really want to say something, they'll temper themselfs, if not, they'll get banned for few days, that's it, i think it can work, if you'r willing to take the effort in the maintenance. it will also give others who can keep themselfs from flaming or whatever, the option to say what they have. but it's just an option. it's sad nobody care to take care of this issue, and it's even worse when some hush others with they're venomous tongue, it really shouldn't be this way, people, you have to step out of that careless attitude. i'll take the chance to specify what has been through the other thread, please try and be patient: i've been through America a few times, i've seen it, i've been in the south and the North, the west and the east, i've been in big cities, and in far away homes, i've seen wealthy couples and poor people, i've seen the character of the building architecture, of people that travel, of people trough the cities etc. i've said that Obama did and is doing great things to america and to this world, and that he's approach is new, and different. ** i say it, and i think it is normal for someone to speak freely about what he thinks **. i keep thinking of that Dunning-Kruger_effect which sometimes seems so true. now o.k, you don't want these arguing here, it causes you issues, but really, i wasn't cursing anyone, there was no reason either to cancel this post or not at least explain what was offensive, i can't take it that others did some wrong stuff so the later should eat what they have put into the ground, it is just isn't fair, **.. ** i say it cause i had the chance to visit some forums and people can be terribly self assure, i'm not saying it's everyone, i'm saying it's quite common, i can see how saying this might have sparked a few people, but if you face it it's true, and i would like to understand why it is so, maybe i'm wrong, if i'm wrong, i'll accept it. ** thank u. **edited for appropriate forum language**tkh [Edit 5 times, last edit by TKH at Aug 23, 2010 7:16:07 PM] |

there was no reason either to cancel this post or not at least explain what was offensive Having been unfortunate enough to have read the original deleted post I can say, it was offensive. I am sure the opinions can be expressed in another more constructive, less offensive way, if they choose to do it. Is there any point in this thread living? |
