Yesterday the manager (6.10.58) randomly asked me if I wanted to exit. I clicked cancel but it then hung for a while then exited anyway. Looks like it has happened again today. First look at Pc today and the manager is missing from the taskbar. All WU's running/uploading/starting as normal tho.

Could guess what you see, as I occasionally see something when the client is remotely connected, so ideally a screenshot would be welcome and a description of the system and whether the BM is minimized or expanded on screen when this *randomly* happens.

Just happened again so grabbed a screenshot.
----------------------------------------http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/2029/boinc.jpg Thats twice with the manager open and once with the manager in the system tray. This time it came up just as I hit the tasks tab. Nothing in the message logs. Windows 7 x64 ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by cw64 at Aug 13, 2010 4:21:40 PM] |

Yes, exactly what I see. The comms between the manager and the core client is somehow slow or impeded. I see this mostly when remotely connecting and being patient for a few seconds it usually succeeds. Hit the Show Active Tasks button and it should mostly not appear again... the trouble caused by yourself. Large amounts of tasks queued, which is why that button was added in 6.6 or 6.10. The BM sucks at refreshing, so another reason I mostly use BOINCTasks tool and get a multiclient view as a bonus.

PS, this imageshack picture is several sizes too large for our forum ... a link to the file is good enough for me, thus if you could edit your post.

PPS, I think this warrants a quick FAQ addition. See this observation more often. We run the client but don't do the RTFM to learn about the interface (were it not that the official Wiki has yet to be updated and me having only 6 hands http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Advanced_view ;-)

Nothing to refresh if the window isn't active? Anyways I'll leave it on Show active tasks for a few days. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by cw64 at Aug 13, 2010 4:29:06 PM] |

Yeah right, that I heard too elsewhere but the BM still connects to that core client to learn about the state of affairs ;-)
----------------------------------------Let us know and if the problem has gone away please mark the opening post with [RESOLVED] in the title. Obviously sizing down the queue will fix it too, which I suppose will happen by itself once your clien(s) have worked thorugh those zillion in progress. cheers

Happened again, while minimised, show active tasks, no messages or pop ups.

Second suspect is the security software impairing the BM <> Core client comms over RPC localhost port 31416 (think I wrote that before today). ZoneAlarm and Norton are baddies in that department. You rally don't need the BM... as said, I use BOINCTasks.
