Re: Join The International Team

JP great to hear from you again, hope you are doing well!

Chris, yes it might get a bit warmer at home but I already have my heat turned down and it is still hot :)

Also, the heat is included in the monthly rent fee as well as electricity and water.

Right now I have taken one of the servers and I have been testing out things like PXE and creating a USB drive to get an OS on it. Have had some luck but still I have had a few bumps along the way. Still I believe I'll get it going soon, have a few ideas...

So far, the worst fator is sound emission from the servers. They are quite loud. Will have to mod a shelf of some kind with sound absorbing materials or something :)

Good luck with the sound dampening. I have a cabinet full of Dells and the noise drove my wife to move them and me into another location. Quiet around the house now, but must manage the computers remotely. Soon will be moving to basement of the new house and wife does noot have a basement key.

Oh, so you have first hand experince from Dell servers. Luckily I do not have to worry about a wife or girlfriend at least but I am somewhat worried bout my own ears and my neighbors...

Do you know what standars cheap construction material there is that one can use for bulk isolation? :)

I managed to make a bootable USB stick with Windows 2003 server with slipstreamd drivers for the SCSI disc so at least I have an OS on one now.

Just make sure your wife does not make a copy of your key while you are asleep or you might wake up to an empty, and very quiet, basement one day biggrin

Okey going to the movies, biggrin

Stay tune for tomorrow smile IBM Watson: Countdown to Jeopardy!

On February 14, 2011, Watson, the IBM computing system designed to play Jeopardy!, faces its toughest challenge yet. Jeopardy! The IBM Challenge pits the two greatest champions in the show's history against a machine that rivals their ability to deliver a single, precise answer to a Jeopardy! smile

The best insulation for noise I have been able to find is styrofoam. You can pick up styrofoam shhets at most home centers here in the US, but not familiar with there. They use them as outside wall insulation and for floors in cold climates. Good luck.

No worries with the wife cleaning out the basement, she needs an excuse to berate me and this provides a ready excuse.
