do you see better performance with that level? I can't really say. I don't pay close enough attention. |

If performance means work done there should not be any difference: it is not BOINC which does the work, it is the applications. BOINC is only managing WUs. Now if you mean earned points or credits it's a different story since it seems that each version has its own CPU benchmark parameters. No idea why. |

OK, thx, just wondering since there is a big difference between linux and windows. I hear linux WU are done almost 2x for some projects. Yeah, I know boinc doesn't do the work, but wasn't sure if the 64 bit OS has less overhead for this stuff, honestly I doubt it. The 64 bit improvement will only occur when WCG upgrade their WU

In fact, OS and mode are where the differences are.
----------------------------------------The WUs are the same. The applications probably have minimal differences, say what is strictly needed to port them from one OS to the other. Apparently Linux is more efficient than Windows at getting the best from available HW resources, and maybe its libraries are better (just a guess, I don't know). And the 64-bit mode allows the OS (whichever) to use all bells and whistles available in modern 64-bit processors, while the 32-bit compatibility mode restricts them to 32-bit compatible functions. The most impressive performance improvements are seen with HCC WUs, but all WCG projects are running faster in 64-bit mode. So much that one may wonder if there would still be much more to gain with 64-bit specific application modules. |

Back to the question in the original post. We are getting close to adopting the 6.10 version (in fact if you want to try it out our version is available at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/wcg_boinc_6.10.57_windows_intelx86.exe
We are currently having an internal team conduct a security review on version. Once that is complete, then we will make it our recommended version. |

Thank you for this great update about this question. ![]()

Once that is complete, then we will make it our recommended version. Hmm, the "normal" v6.10.57-version lead to multiple crashed clients during the alpha-testing, due to problems with GPU-detection. So, even WCG doesn't have a GPU-application, wouldn't the WCG-v6.10.57-version have the same problem? ![]() "I make so many mistakes.
