Getting the same hostID after formatting the HDD

Guys,

I plan to upgrade my desktop with a SSD and do a clean install of Win7.
Currently this desktop has crunched for more than an year. Is there any way to get back the same host ID of the computer after I install Win7 newly?

The last time I clean installed an OS, my old PC host id was wiped out even though I named the new PC the same computer name. The points were intact. But this new machine started crunching from score of Zero with a new host id.

If I open up free DC stats and click on my user name, i see a lot of hosts.

I want 1138678 to continue accumulating points after I install the OS newly on this rig. Is there anyway to do that?

Sekerob has documented this in the FAQ http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=16521. I've used this on a number of machines doing the same this, upgrading and/or reinstalling, and retained the Host ID.

Good to read it worked for you repeatedly, but after rereading this oldy I have flipped points small a+b as to ensure the installer sets the correct ownerships and permissions on the old data directory files.

Also I've added a note of caution... read completely before starting so all the ins and outs are understood... don't dive in!
