bionc task priority in ubuntu

please tell me or point to FAQ to tell how to increase task priority of boinc processes in Ubunto. I can change the priority in the system monitor but it keeps resetting back to 19.
THanks

Re: bionc task priority in ubuntu

Changing Nice / Priority has effect... seconds maybe on the total task duration, which is why you wont find any FAQ. The priority is hard coded into the BOINC science app wrapper.

And on CEP2, well a few days ago we discussed the special. It seems this science starts a new 'job' at OS level i.e. a new PID will show in the Top view after each checkpoint, 16 wrapped together in 1 task.

Re: bionc task priority in ubuntu

I see. Well, the reason I wanted to change the priority/Nice is that doing so allowed me to run more CEP2 units than 2. I have 3 going easily now and had 4 for a while until the checkpoints reset the priority back down to 19; then the dreaded zero status errors began- on both CEP2 and HCC units.
For no good reason I wonder if not having a swap file on account of the live CD matters. It shouldn't because I have plenty of memory, but ...

Re: bionc task priority in ubuntu

sudo swapon and sudo swapoff in a terminal window will put out a screen of info what you can do with these commands.

sudo swapon -s gave as output

Filename Type Size Used Priority
/dev/sda6 partition 3618808 42632 -1

42MB used of 3.5GB when presently 3 CEP2 and 1 HCMD2 is running concurrently.

The miracle search machine kicked out:

edit: For longer under Windows 7 I've used Process Lasso to steer affinities and priorities for BOINC processes in an automated way. No idea if such tools would exist for Linux.
