Re: BOINC on USB drive issue

BOINC did run benchmarks after I switched from Win 7 to Linux. This was not a CPU upgrade. After it finished the first few WUs I did a manual update and report. The servers sent about 20 new WUs to crunch so it looks like whatever caused the hiccup is cured. Thanks to all who helped.

Re: BOINC on USB drive issue

I tried FatDog64, a similar thing to DOTSCH/Linux (small, easy to use and can run from a USB stick). It works with GPUGrid, so it sounded just the ticket for me, but it does not work with WCG sad
Fortunately it works with Rosetta, Docking and Ibercivis (and probably others).

Re: BOINC on USB drive issue

You leave it completely up in the air as to why it's not working with WCG when you tried FatDog64. It might be of interest to those who also might want to give it a try and squeeze out the last Kb.

Re: BOINC on USB drive issue

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28642

Create a cc_config.xml file in the Boinc folder,
add the following text,

<cc_config>
<options>
<alt_platform>i686-pc-linux-gnu</alt_platform>
</options>
</cc_config>

Close and Open Boinc again. Then do a WCG update.

Re: BOINC on USB drive issue

For those wishing to try FatDog64 and wanting to run the more demanding CEP2 project, it is probably best to save your work to a spare hard drive (unless you have a very large USB memory module); Menu (bottom left hand corner), Setup, Puppy Universal Installer - setup a drive (internal or external) to save a fd64save.3fs file onto with your work and settings. You will still need to boot from the CD but it will auto-detect your fd64save.3fs files.
It is a useful tool for those needing a Windows system during the day, but have a free system to crunch with over night.

Re: BOINC on USB drive issue

plz remove [from your post] the 4th line of your cc_config.xml sample. It increases loads on the servers substantially and should only be used by those that do for instance daily device re-imaging.

Re: BOINC on USB drive issue

It is essential for some GPU projects and stops people that dual boot (using USB or other) from missing report deadlines, but I removed it, as it is not essential for here.
