Problem with latest Ubuntu install [RESOLVED]

Had the older version running fine. Did an update and crash. Installed latest version from the software center which is 6.10.17. I get an error "no application found for task". Am guessing I have the manager but not the client. I redownloaded 6.10.17 but cannot remember the sh command to install. Any help appreciated.

Re: Problem with latest Ubuntu install

Sounds like something else is the issue... 64 bit? Anyway, here's the wiki page

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Installing_on_Linux

Your Ubuntu does not have the Synaptic Package Manager where from you can pull the update?

Yes, it is the 64 bit version. I had the 64 bit version too before this update. Something tells my WCG will not work with this new version of Ubuntu. Seems to have allot of changes. Maybe I should go back to the previous version. Let me know what I should do. Tnks

Re: Problem with latest Ubuntu install

Bearcat,

posting the actual series of messages in BOINC helps us speed through the solution. Probably you need to add the line I had to add to the cc_config.xml per this FAQ: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28642

This wiki also gives good tips: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BOINC

Don't ask me where your file is. I've discovered during my initiation that opposed to Windows, the file is created for the Linux install. In my case it was in /etc/boinc-client [I hate this case sensitivity *nix OSses, though it makes sense]. Had to do a chown before I could edit the file.

hmmm, please see this post for link to the FAQ explaining the option line that needs inserting into the cc_config.xml

... but momentarily I see you reading that FAQ, so suppose you'll be getting there :>)

Re: Problem with latest Ubuntu install

I upgraded from Karmic 64-bit to Lucid 64-bit and it was an absolute pleasure. smile

The HCC workunits really fly at between 50 and 55 min each. I'm running BOINC 6.10.17 and it is available from the Synaptic Package Manager. I suggest un-installing and reinstalling the boinc-manager and boinc-client.

I tried adding that line in the cc_config.xml file but still get the errors. Any place specific were to add the line?

(Found my old post about where to add it so hopefully it will work.)

Re: Problem with latest Ubuntu install

Still not working. Added the line between the options of the original cc_config.xml file. Did not work. I created a empty file and added just the option, still did not work. Keep getting the same error as I posted above. Will try again when I get some time but would take suggestion if you have any.

Warped, did you have to do anything different when you upgraded?
