Per uplinger's post in the Announcements subforum:
----------------------------------------One of my Linux boxes picked up two of these WUs. Expected running time for each WU is 8 hours and 15 imuntes. |

Uplinger,
----------------------------------------It's not clear for me from your announcement if the shorter duration is only meant to speed up this beta test or if it is the purpose of the test, i.e. to see if 10 main loops are enough. Thank you for any clarification. Edit: OK, I have posted this before reading the "It's raining Dengue" thread. From your post in this other thread it seems that the new durations are the purpose of the current beta test. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by JmBoullier at May 4, 2010 1:55:47 AM] |

Uplinger, It's not clear for me from your announcement if the shorter duration is only meant to speed up this beta test or if it is the purpose of the test, i.e. to see if 10 main loops are enough. Thank you for any clarification. Edit: OK, I have posted this before reading the "It's raining Dengue" thread. From your post in this other thread it seems that the new durations are the purpose of the current beta test. You are correct in your edit. There are a few reasons for this beta. But one is to make sure that the accuracy of 10 times through the loop is very close to 50 times through the loop. From the amount of results they received from production, they believe the additional 40 times through the loop were not beneficial towards the end result. We are also testing a few other parameter changes in the actual work units which will hopefully help with the exit 29's members were seeing. I say hopefully, meaning we won't know until we process more data. :) But if this beta goes well, we will see a type B work units. If they go well, then we'll see type C work units in Beta. Hope this helps, -Uplinger |

Uplinger, will there be a short 'manual break' between each stage - just as there was before (i.e., where the scientists need to verify that that stage was successful)?

gb009761, at this point (hint, hint, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, etc...), the validation between types is in their hands.

I picked up one (BETA_ts02_a005_ps0000_2) and manually moved to the top of my queue for immediate processing. BOINC Manager says it will be finished 12-1/2 hours from now. I check on it in the morning 8 hours from now.

The two beta WUs are now finished, the runtime having blown out to approximately 10 hours each on a core2quad running Ubuntu. They are:

I also managed to grab one: BETA_ts04_a002_ps0000
----------------------------------------I moved it manually to the top of the pile and am crunchinng away! |

Blink, and they're gone... Hopefully, I'll have more luck when these A type Beta WU's turn into B types, and then C types... If not, then I'll just have to wait for the next round of Beta WU's to grab the 10 hrs I need to get my Bronze badge |
