Re: Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

With 2.6.39 just out and 2.6.40 renumbered to 3.0.0, an interesting recovery disk distro just appeared for the grabs:

SystemRescueCd 2.2.0 Comes with Linux Kernel 2.6.38.8 and 2.6.39.1

http://news.softpedia.com/news/SystemRescueCd...and-2-6-39-1-204423.shtml
About SystemRescueCd

SystemRescueCd is a Linux Live CD operating system that offers an easy and quick way to repair systems and recover data after serious crashes.

With utilities ranging from disk diagnostic mechanisms (such as TestDisk and sfdisk) and partition managers, to basic, day-to-day applications (like text editors, Midnight Commander, etc.), SystemRescueCd also provides support for all important filesystems, including the Btrfs and EXT4 ones.

SystemRescueCd is a solution that anyone who is experiencing data loss or other system-related problems should consider using.

Highlights of SystemRescueCd 2.2.0:

· Linux kernel 2.6.38.8 - 32-bit and 64-bit versions;
· Linux kernel 2.6.39.1 - alternative option, 32-bit and 64-bit versions;
· Offline NT Password & Registry Editor updated - "ntpasswd" boot entry;
· NTFS3G 2011.4.12 - driver for read/write access to NTFS partitions;
· Python 2.7 replaces Python 2.6;
· Perl 5.12.3;
· Gentoo Portage 2.1.9;
· GParted 0.8.1;
· Samba 3.4.12.

Every month there's a new release coming out. It having the lighter Xfce desktop GUI, wonder if this could be promoted to being me next Linux crunching platform given it's NTFS, SAMBA, Gparted integrated features :O)

Post the message log. One of the few common for Linux is the platform identifier [fixed in cc_config.xml] and the certificate placement/absence [ca-bundle.crt]

Let us know.

Re: Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

Ah, you're stuck before the attach... way before point where work requests are initiated. Possibly the build has the master-url file missing. Try entering the url http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org in the attach box to see if you can even get beyond that point... the client then trying to do an initial connect after which the member name / password box would normally appear.

Not familiar with YaST... not that interested in trying all possible flavors there are around to squeeze the last nanosecond out, if that's the objective. Except for CEP2 99.8% efficiency is fine for me on Ubuntu 11.04. Hopefully 11.10 has the 3.0 kernel as power-management particular for laptops is shot with Narwhal. There are workaround for the present.

Re: Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

The attach was where I got stuck when I first tried running BOINC under Fedora. There turned out to be two pieces to the solution. One was to go into Fedora's firewall controller and give BOINC access to the Internet. Ack, I can't remember what the other one was. I don't know whether SUSE is set up with the same very restrictive firewall as in Fedora.
