I've had 2 computers do this as well. I removed the client from both, as I can't have PCs locked up when they're running this software. Actually, they do seem to be operating, but I can't close the SS.
----------------------------------------I received an email from the grid system asking for me to return, but I'm leery. Isn't there some documented issues with this? or documented resolution? Seems that I'm not the only one. * edit * Sorry, one PC was a 1.6ghz centrino laptop, dell w/ 512g mem, running xp home SP3. Other PC, i can't remember which one, as I have several around the house. I don't remember the version either, though my last returned result was June 12, 2010. I had installed probably a month or so before that, so I would have downloaded around april - may 2010. The screensaver boinc.scr talks to the core client boinc.exe with RPC over localhost port 31416, so too needs an exception in many firewalls or security suites. 6.10 was supposed to fix an old standing bug, but have as of yet never been able to replicate with either 6.2 or 6.10.
----------------------------------------Old version may have been the WCG skinned kit 6.2.28. If you remember the WCG chevron to show in the systray, than that it was. edit: No there was this *esc* key workaround, to not touch the mouse that worked for me when succeeding to get it hung.

Personally I recommend to avoid BOINC's screensaver function.
----------------------------------------If you need a screensaver for security reasons, better use the system one with a black screen or a simple picture of your choice. You will save both possible problems and CPU cycles. ![]() |

Thank you both for the information, and the timely replies. I think I will pursue this further, without SS. I have a new(ish) PC that is sitting usually idle, so it would be a good candidate for this project testing.
I will be much more detailed upon re-starting this project. Should more problems arise, I will have more detail should it be helpful. |
