sad Connection Failed

I just installed the Mac OSX client (v.10.6.2). Immediately after the install, I ran the client but there's a connection failure: 'BOINC Manager is not able to connect to a BOINC Client'.

Any idea what might be going on? I certainly have connectivity so that's not the issue.

Thanks,
David

Re: Connection Failed

Uhm, are you meaning OSX version 10.6.2, also called "Snow Leopard"?

If so, if you're trying to use the BOINC-version downloadable here from WCG, it's doubtful it will work.

Instead, chances are you'll need to download a more resent BOINC-version, from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php

Re: Connection Failed

I've been running BOINC 6.10.21 on 115 machines (85 running 10.6.x and the rest running 10.5.8) without any real big problems (other than self-inflicted ones) that I can see.

If given a choice between what works and what is "supported," you're always better off with what works.

Update: I should mention I don't even bother with the screensaver part of it; I set the screen to sleep before the screensaver starts. I suppose I'd be better off running the CLI version, but I can't find any instructions that I, a mere English major, can decipher.

Re: Connection Failed

WCG is in the process of testing the 6.10 client and subsequently will update the various pages on what applies to which platform. Steve took many according Jobs Law forcing BOINC developers to quickly change various as the screensaver amongst stopped working too. We'll live. Timeline: Q2-10... too much going on which is why there's our Start Here FAQ's as well for the quick response changes, and just updated :D
