Must say, getting rid of the mossies has attractive aspects, but there are birds in particular that eat the flying type.

Interesting News Articles Related to Dengue - Continued

adrianxw,

not sure if we have yet, but would you mind renaming this thread to Interesting News Articles Related to Dengue - Continued similar to the one we had in the phase 1 forum here: http://worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=15927

thanks,

and yes, reducing wing size shortens flight distance/reach. With malaria that's a key as plasmodium can only live a limited time in the bug... it needs to sting another person within say 30 to 60 minutes. The African wisdom is to prevent bites of the infected people, with priority. Then the spreading of the malign gets rapidly curtailed. That's why a small amount of my time goes towards malaria.control.net BOINC project studying all the different behaviours, transmission dynamics as they put it at Africa@Home.

Re: Interesting News Articles Related to Dengue

If you're referring to some press release, google produced a direct hit on the announcement page here at WCG, second item (this moment):

google scholar also does a good job at finding more.

May have been previously posted, think to have seen it before, Dec-2009
Sanofi Pasteur Global Dengue Vaccine Clinical
Program Expanded in Latin America

http://en.sanofi-aventis.com/binaries/20091209_Dengue_en_tcm28-26831.pdf

Mexico City (Mexico) - December 9, 2009 - Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccines division of the sanofiaventis
Group (EURONEXT: SAN and NYSE: SNY), announced today the expansion of its dengue
vaccine clinical program in Latin America with a new multicenter study in children and adolescent in
Mexico, Colombia, Honduras and Puerto Rico. This new multicenter study complements an earlier
study in Mexico and an ongoing study in Peru.
These studies are aimed at advancing the development of a novel vaccine for the prevention of
dengue infections in Latin America. Currently, there is no specific treatment available against dengue
fever, which is the most widespread tropical disease after malaria.
“Latin America was considered almost free of dengue in the 1960s. Since then, urbanization and
travel have contributed to the fast re-emergence of the disease. Today, dengue disease is a severe
public health issue throughout Latin America,” said Dr. Roberto Tapia-Conyer, Director General at
Carso Health Institute. “So far, controlling the mosquitoes that transmit dengue didn’t stop this trend.
A safe and effective vaccine would be most welcome to prevent dengue epidemics in the region.”

Re: Interesting News Articles Related to Dengue

Hello Warped@RSA,
About the only way it could duplicate our research would be to intentionally rerun the same compounds we are running. Even then, they would doubtless be using different algorithms. China has a large number of Dengue Fever cases each year. It is only natural that a Chinese university would search for dengue drugs.

Lawrence

Added: They are checking 300,000 compounds. This sounds quite different from our list of compounds, though there might be some duplicates.

New Anti-Malaria drug found. All you have to do is put it in the ground. In fact if you don't cut them down they can even do that themselves. http://www.newsdaily.com/stories/tre65f617-us-malaria-amazon/

4.2% clearance leads to 48 percent increase in malaria cases.

GM mosquito could spell end of malaria

THE tropical disease malaria could finally be eradicated after scientists created a genetically modified mosquito which cannot pass the disease to humans.
Malaria infects 250 million people a year and kills more than a million, mainly children......
