Re: Show me the points!!

At the risk of restarting the old debate for the millionth time, please, please, remember we're doing this for the science, not the points. Personally I don't care too much about points, I'm more motivated by badges, but just because they remind me of my contribution to the projects.

If you look at some of my past posts you will see that I entirely agree with you. Helping fundamental research advance and try to contribute to make a little difference. This is the fundamental base on which everything rests. peace
Topics like Aids, cancer, feeding the world etc. are very serious stuff.

But this now said, credits, points, badges and all the rest, are the things that allows to have fun dancing at the same time, and keep a combative beat up spirit. So even when I say that I am unhappy at this or that, let me reassure you this is as virtual as the points. wink

Re: Show me the points!!

Sek after having forced all the machines to benchmark, the day after, the daily points and results improved in a significative way. In the past I always noted that it took days before full performance was reached.

It is worth then once switching all machines to a new project and when they start delivering the first unit to force benchmark on all of them and update. peace

Hypernova, it's beyond me why the manual benchmarks give immediate better points. As noted before, the client benchmark should vary little and is automatic every 120 hours. When you switch sciences, do you run the cache empty before? That may explain as for any quorum dependent project there's an expected initial validation delay of several days. The exception to that is FAAH/HFCC. When a known and a reliable rated client, validation should be immediate upon return of first work.

No. I have no idea about the cache.

The only thing is that each machine has a 1 day buffer. I switch all my machines at the same time by switching to a new profile that has the new project to crunch. Immediately in the buffer start coming WU's of the new project at the same rate as those of the former project are returned. Once the one day buffer of the last project is exhausted the machines start to crunch the new project WU's.
I have a significative dip in my daily performance and it takes a few days before things go up again to a stationary regime. I always had that phenomenon.

Re: Show me the points!!

Hypernova,

the sole mechanic you're affected by here is the different validation rules at research level, the short list from least good to best (my perceptions of what's seen on the Result Status page, THE place to see what's holding up your points)

dddt2
hcmd2
hcc
hpf2
rice
faah
hfcc

faah/hfcc are really ex aequo being zero redundancy only the occasional inconclusive/random revalidation required thorugh a second later or immediately issued verifier/wingman. And of course there's the pyche of the manual cache managers, those that see jobs that already have a wingman or when a batch goes bad suspend their processing (seems for hcmd2 that's currently the case. Got 20 jobs waiting on wingman since the temporary validator fail Thursday night). All is fine since.

Re: Show me the points!!

I have now switched to HPFP2. The one day buffer will allow me to pass the sapphire tonight on HCC. And sometimes tomorrow HPFP2 will start. I will then check the impact on results over the next days. If it is as usual then first they will be a dip in daily points and then up again.
I know that I will have an incredible high number of errors (due to 0 time CPU) but it should not impact results.

Right. When you switch to HPF2 you should expect to wait some time before seeing results validated. Also, be not surprised if it does not come back to your usual daily totals after that delay: from personal experience and from watching projects daily numbers HPF2 is the project which credits the least.

Regarding benchmarks, in my opinion, the only serious reason for forcing benchmarks systematically is when you have changed your overclocking rate. Otherwise WUs may be rated at the former speed during up to 5 days.

It is a fact. I started at not under 50% thanks to an overlap with validations from HCC adding up. I still have 119 PV WU from HCC. As they get validated they improve a little the total but this will be exhausted in the next few days. Yesterday I was at 65% of normality. Wait and see at what level it will stabilize. thinking
