Out of the initial 29 WUs on five machines, these are still either Pending Validation or In Progress. They are all remote and relatively slower machines. I might have a silver by the time the slowest machine is done, however.

The new badge hunters slowed down this project by about a week!
----------------------------------------** Kindly set your cache to something reasonable such as 0.5days, rather than 10days, with one project selected! This is not a competition between participants. ** **edited for intolerance**tkh [Edit 1 times, last edit by TKH at Feb 23, 2010 1:17:21 PM] |

Anyone with a badge should be embarrassed about getting it so early. Surely you jest. Anyone with a badge probably has more/faster computers than those that don't. For example, I'm running 5 PCs with 28 (w/ hyperthreading) cores, all at 2.8GHz+. I have several pendings and only 2 in progress. I doubt very seriously that the ones with badges are slowing the project. |

Did you think about the average cruncher, those 95%, who are not permanently active in this forum... Those, who have maybe one or two PC's, working from 9 to 5 a day, and have their cache set to 0.01 days, and have set "opt to add me into new projects". When they get a WU of 30 to 100 hours, you can imagine how long ot takes until theit return theit results. Especially, when one of them is on sick leave (happens often in winter time), or might is on ski vacation (also not unusual currently). So because of their percentage quota, their will be many WU's, which will take long for validation, and IMHO also pretty much will be rated as "not returned". That is what can happen, if there are such "monster" WU's which might run up to 100 hours... You should consider such facts before you attack users here, which do return their results in time... Anyone with a badge should be embarrassed about getting it so early. Be patient. You will get some DDDT2 work. There is plenty of time and plenty of other good projects here to crunch. Those peeps with badges have returned the work quickly and moved the project along a bit. Lets not argue over such trivial stuff. |

Much kinder words than I would have said, I started 2 posts and deleted them both, As one of the earlier badge people I have finished all 21 WU that I have downloaded (cept for a couple errors) and am back on another project, be careful what you Assume people have set their caches at. ![]() |

Jack is correct.!! I COMPLETED the 27 wu's my farm received within 50 hours with a cache set at 0.01 as it always is. Take a chill pill!! DataMan, I thought I had enough badges and points to not be accused of petit badge jealousy. Why would I be envious of a brown badge when the project is set to run for years? I think you will find GREED is also on that list, not that it applies to you - Well done for being one of the first to get the new project badge; because I respect that you have such a low cache setting. Unfortunately I think your settings are more the exception than the rule here.
Perhaps some people dont realise that it is especially important for this project that results are returned quickly; the next batch depends on the results of the first – that is what makes it a semi-intermittent project! So any initial hold ups are an issue for the project. No doubt some tasks wont be returned within the 10day cut off, and will have to be resent. Although greed may have been a big factor here, there might have been harsher location/connection criteria limits in place too (bandwidth, ping length). |
