Why it happens we don't know and not 2 months before this research project is finishing and 25 million results already validated, doubt anyone is going to get on investigating the root cause.

Er - what? Two months to go? Surely you jest??

Mysteron347, if you read the very first post, the poster originally was mistaken with what the WU was - i.e., he thought it was a NRftW WU and not a HCMD2 workunit.

Thus, don't panic!!!!!

Yes it was a mistake on my part d oh. Because of the similar run times of RICE and HCMD2 well I mistook it for RICE blushing

Re: WU stuck on 88.888%?

tombell12,

Thank you for sending the email. I have tested that work unit in stand alone and did not encounter any issues with the work unit itself. Also, it appears that the other two members that ran that work unit successfully completed them. Your computer seems reliable and has returned other CMD2 work units after this one was aborted. I can only view the work units in your result status page, so I'm curious if you've encountered this before?

Also, I know this next part may sound strange, but have you performed a hard drive scan on your system? I am curious if the work unit files got locked somehow in a write state and were not released.

Re: WU stuck on 88.888%?

Hey Uplinger smile

Nup, this is the first time I have ever had a workunit lock up on me like this and I have returned about 196 units all up. I just wonder if it is just a once off error. It was still consuming CPU despite the stalled progress.

Just from looking at my hard disk's S.M.A.R.T values they seem to look pretty good but I can certainly try a scan and see if it tells me anything else smile

I'm back cool

Well the Extended hard disk scan came up completely clean. No faults whatsoever. So the mystery remains. I'm not so worried that I had to abort it, it's more the case of Why? thinking

Re: WU stuck on 88.888%?

tombell12,

It sounded strange to me, uplinger may have meant AV type scans. It is recommended to exclude the data_dir [path printed in the BOINC start up log]. These AV programs often give conflicts and false positives. It's save as memory scanning still continues at multiple levels plus the processes run under a limited access account.

Ah could be Sekerob, just definitely wanted to rule a HDD problem out wink .

My AV (Avast) uses real-time protection so it would normally inform me of what it considers to be "suspicious" behaviour. But still I could run a regular full scan to double check if it intreprets the .exe processing the unit as a virus. Think I will consider setting an exclusion rule as you have suggested thinking

Re: WU stuck on 88.888%?

I've got since upgrading to W7 in November the Avast Beta 5 (latest build now 5.0.418). Massively faster than version 4 and using drastically less CPU time. Just checked and completely forgot to set the exclusion under file system shield, expert settings for C:\ProgramData\BOINC\* with RWX exclusion. It gave me occasional issue under 4 and as proven under 5 none so far on the quad. Set it anyhow as I don't want it going false positively funking up a 50 hour DDDT2 A type job.
