just downloaded wcg to a new machine.. I was under the impression it would use 4 cores, but have 8 work units running.. what am I doing wrong?

Core i7 has hyperthreading, so yes the OS sees 8 cores.

It's activated because your OS sees 8 logical cores instead of the physical 4.

If it sees 8 cores, then how come it's running only 4 work units? i'm missing something again.. :(

boinc only shows 4 work units running.. not sure about task manager.. (feeling pretty computer illiterate at the moment..)

CTRL+ALT+Delete or right click the task bar --> task manager. then click the performance tab. the number of cores will be the number of blocks in the CPU part. |
