One of my computers finished it's last 2 task and now it isn't downloading new tasks, but I have no problem with another computer with the same config.
At the Project Tab, the status is "---" At Messages Tab: "Sending scheduler request: Requested by User. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks" "Scheduler request succeded: got 0 new tasks" I'm subscribed to "Help Fight Childhood Cancer" Project, but selected the "If there is no work available for my computer......" option Any ideas? |

Ok, after I clicked "Post new thread" the computer started downloading.... So sorry to bother. As an IT Geek, I feel like a Final User.

Ok, after I clicked "Post new thread" the computer started downloading.... Well, fine. But I can't promise that this trick will always work. If this machine runs dry again please tell us more about your settings. Cheers. Jean. |

Wonder if mitrichr is in the neighborhood, though he's been silent for a while now on his dry-running I7.

Oh yes!! And how are you all?
----------------------------------------I did report on a thread, at the BOINC Message Boards, http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=4561 after running dry at Connect every = .30 and Additional work = 0.00, my next step was to take the suggestion to put Additional work = 2.0. While I am using Activity = Prefs, I did set up a profile for just the Win7 computer to mirror the local prefs. If is this redundant, that's fine. That did the trick. I have been fine now for a couple of weeks. I slowly added projects. I have been checking Results on all of the projects on this machine and everything is positive. I check every couple of days. I wrote the post there because so many of the suggestions I got, including Sek's, were in that thread. I also expressed my thanks and gratitude for all of the help I received. While credits are not my interest, I can say that I have gone from generally less than 1000 per day to between 3000 and 4000 per day. I still think that the Win7 64 bit O/S combined with the I7-920 and higher processors are really new territory for BOINC. Possibly this should mean a review of the defaults. If this work is to attract less technical people - like me- they need to have an easier time of it getting going. My new machine is relatively ordinary for a new purchase. Thanks again. |

While credits are not my interest, I can say that I have gone from generally less than 1000 per day to between 3000 and 4000 per day. Although most of us in this forum use credits for some kind of competition or another, one must not forget that they are also (first?) a measurement tool to help us quickly see if things are running as they should. Since BOINC is supposed to run in a stealth way without clobbering our monitors with lots of messages or windows while we want to do something else it is important that there is a simple way to quickly check if it is producing useful work as expected. Cheers. Jean. |

That was what I was saying, merely a measure of the quality of the work being done for these great endeavors.

At first, I thought I had the same situation. (See original post)
One of several pc's acting strangely (Requesting 0 seconds of work), was crunching Muscular Dystrophy, but recently changed to HCC. My task list kept getting shorter and shorter. One evening I went to bed with only one task available to work on... but the next morning the pc was working on a (different) new task. I checked all the options I occasionally change but couldn't see anything unusual. Rebooted (it's probably been a month since I've done that), Reset project, checked for latest software version. I though perhaps I had set the additional work buffer to .05 days instead of 5 days..... None of this changed what I was seeing. However, when I changed the work buffer to 6 days and updated, I was rewarded with a number of files being downloaded... but these new tasks do not show up; all I see is the current task progress and one more task available for work. The good news, the machine still crunches.... I'm just curious as to why I can't see the tasks, and what can I do to get the list visible again. This is one of 3 machines configured pretty much the same; All are 6 or more years old (hey, it's better that recycling!), running XP, with regular Windows updates. I haven't installed any new software (or hardware drivers) on any of them for the past several months. Comments or suggestions welcome! |

If you have a really new version of the BOINC Manager and are looking at the Advanced tab you may hve clicked on the "Show Active Tasks" button (which will now say "Show All Tasks"). Click this and see if all your other tasks appear.

Snow,
Running version 6.2.28 of BOINC Manager. Looking at "Advanced View", I don't have an Advanced tab. I do have an Advanced pull down menu but don't see "Show All/Active Tasks" as an available command or as a choice in any of the dialog boxes. What am I missing? Thanks! |
