Hi, I'm back and using boinc after the old software was changed a few years ago and I have a few Q.s and comments.
Because I only run my computer about 3hrs at night and in the morning I had to severely limit my projects. I did stop new projects from downloading in the setting since there no way I can finish them all before they expire. Can they be seeded like a torrent? What will happen to those? Why do they all expire before there is a way I can finish them? Is there a setting somewhere I'm missing to just not download new units until the old ones are completed instead of just don't get new ones. Can I only get new work units when finished with old ones automatically and limit to, say 3? I have 6 now. I want to participate but don't want to waste the chunks I've been sent. Sorry for the jibberish, I don't know what I'm doing (in case you couldn't tell). Thanks |

Given that you only crunch for a few hours a day I would suggest only working on RICE or CMD2 projects as they both have time limitations built in them. RICE always runs for 7 hours total and CMD2 runs for 6 hours and if it is more than 60% finished at that point it will continue up to a maximum of 12 hours. To reduce the number of WUs you have in your queue you can change the Workunit Cache Setting to be very small, say maybe .25. With these settings you should always be able to return completed WUs before they expire which is 10 days after you download them.
Happy crunching, |
