Everone have a great day!! Oh. and would one of you Northerners up the close the door -- we are getting a really cold draft down here in the South. ![]() I'll second that. it was 40f (4c) this morning and won't get much over 50f (10c) all day. i hate cold weather. that's why i left the Air Force. they stationed me on the upper peninsula of Michigan and after growing up in San Antonio, i experienced over 360 inches of snow that year and a whole month when the high was less than 20f (-7c). when they wouldn't move me, i chose not to reenlist and headed back to Texas. ... Two very nice milestones today plus, while it may or may not be a first, it is not at all routine to have a single member hit 100,000 points in one day!!! ... Thank You! Thanks Dave. Actually one of my machines dropped off the network due to the fumble-fingered owner changing out routers. It remaind that way for some time. When I noticed it yesterday, it had run all its WUs and was waiting for a connection. Connection resulted in uploading all the WUs and downloading new ones. Hence the peak in stats (hopefully a one-time thing as I do not know how long the machine was sitting there idle). So.. I screwed up and wasted some time and then got a pat on the back for it. Sort of the inverse of doing a good deed and getting punshed for it. ... I have had that happen as well.Everone have a great day!! Oh. and would one of you Northerners up there close the door -- we are getting a really cold draft down here in the South. ![]() Edit Typeo Okay, don't think the network connection on another machine will fly today. Why not just admit you're just good! ![]() |

For those of you interested in the team challenges (we've been doing pretty well), you know that I have been creating monthly and quarterly challenges for all projects. I'm trying a bit of an experiment. I've created points, results and run time challenges for each of the six active projects for February. Many folks and teams prefer to crunch particular projects so this would be of interest for them. If that interest is good enough, we should probably look at some sort of tracking of the challenges. I'm open to ideas and am hoping someone would be interested in doing that and maintaining a separate thread on our challenges. It seems like a good way to raise the awareness of our team and perhaps do a little good at the same time. Any thoughts? Hmm, a day later and we already have a dozen teams for challenges that don't start until February. Looks like there's going to be some interest. I know some teams have gotten pretty elaborate with graphs and all for their challenges. My inclination is that a thread for these with updates say once a week to summarize the top three or five teams would be enough. That doesn't time someone down every day. However, what you folks can see may differ somewhat from what I see as captain. I know I have to create the challenges each month but if others can see them, maybe some sort of copy and paste into the challenge thread will keep it simple but also be good enough too. |

@Dr Mike...
Just some quick comments: Processor Intel® Core i7 975 Processor Extreme Edition (4x3.33GHz/8MB L3 Cache) Extreme editions tend to be over priced. Going to a slightly slower i7 is probably a better deal if there's an option. iBUYPOWER PowerDrive PowerDrive Level 2 - Up to 20% Overclocking Not sure what this means. May or may not be worth it depending on the cost and whether or not you want to overclock. Processor Cooling [Free Upgrade] Liquid CPU Cooling System w/ 120mm Radiator [SOCKET-1366] Check if the liquid cooling system needs maintenance Memory 12 GB [2 GB X6] DDR3-1600 Triple Memory Module - Corsair or Major Brand That should be more than enough. Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 1792MB - Single Card Make sure you've got a monitor that will connect to this card. It's almost certainly a DVI connector (white). If your current monitor has a VGA connection (blue) you will need an adapter of some sort. If you're not going to be doing GPU crunching or gaming, this is overkill. If you are going to GPU crunch or game, it's fine. You've also mentioned a couple of times that you'd like to have wireless. I don't see it in this configuration. Can you get it as a build option or are you comfortable adding the card + drivers after you get the system? - D |
