Re: All my WU's end immediately with "Output file xx for task xx absent"...

The message in the title is only the consequence of your WUs failing: obviously in that case there is no output file to send back to the host.

Reading your message log and your feedback shows that most (all?) WUs are failing in this machine, with a variety of error codes which tend to indicate hardware problems.
If this machine is overclocked first bring it back to its normal speed.
Also check your hard disk(s) and your RAM for possible recurrent errors.

Good luck. Jean.

Re: All my WU's end immediately with "Output file xx for task xx absent"...

Yes I have read suggestions of running memtest86+ in other threads on similar subjects but the thing is I am running dualboot with Win XP and I have had no problems running boinc/wcg there.
I am also running Virtualbox with Win XP as a guest under Fedora 11 and same story here, boinc/wcg are running flawlessly....
Seem strange that the installed memory or my harddrive would be an issue then, doesn't it?

Re: All my WU's end immediately with "Output file xx for task xx absent"...

SEE10267,

The error on HPF2, mx404 seems like it may have run on windows on your machine an is different than your linux issues. Am I correct on that assumption?

Doing the hardware check is usually a good thing to try even if it may seem strange, it could find something. Some members have never run a scan on their computers which could have memory issues when they purchased the machine.

For the other, there may be something on Fedora 11 install that is preventing the application threads from spawning. You are using 6.6.x, how did you install this on fedora? was it an rpm? If you are wanting to use the latest version of BOINC, please try to run 6.10.x and see if your issues persist.

Re: All my WU's end immediately with "Output file xx for task xx absent"...

Problem [RESOLVED], well kind of...
I ran memtest86+ four times without errors uninstalled BOINC completely and left it like that.
I re-installed BOINC using Fedoras Add/Remove Software app and when I came to the point where I get to choose projects, World Community Grid was greyed out and on choosing that it says "This project may not have work for your type of computer."?
I don't remember ever seeing that message before?
Anyway, I chose another project, climateprediction.net and that one downloaded its files and have been running happiliy ever since...

Facts and figures about my machine:
Processor: 2 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo CPU T2400 @ 1.83GHz [Family 6 Model 14 Stepping 12]
Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe nx constant_tsc arch_perfmon bts pni monitor vmx est tm2 xtpr pdcm
OS: Linux: 2.6.30.9-96.fc11.i686.PAE
Memory: 2.95 GB physical, 2.00 GB virtual
Disk: 39.94 GB total, 10.39 GB free

What makes my pc able to run climateprediction.net but unable to run worldcommunitygrid?

anyone?

It's probably how your client identifies itself, the platform, with WCG. What's the new startup log saying... anonymous?

Re: All my WU's end immediately with "Output file xx for task xx absent"...

The same load error as in the first log:

Mon 23 Nov 2009 12:48:23 PM CET||Can't load library libcudart

Don't know much about linux, let alone fedora, but one reads frequently about a build having dynamic or static library links.

What happens if you type the http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org into the attach to project box and enter.

Have you seen this page: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Installing_BOINC

certainly you need the 32 bit libs to successfully process WCG under a 64 bit platform.

Just a few guesses

My experience with linux is also very limited, but this particular library seems more familiar...

... especially if you writes the name of the library slightly differently, as...

libcudart

Meaning, he's either not got a Nvidia, or haven't correctly installed the CUDA-drivers, and neither has any effects on WCG. wink

certainly you need the 32 bit libs to successfully process WCG under a 64 bit platform.

Well, according to his log his BOINC-client is i686-pc-linux, and not x86_64-pc-linux that would have been the case if he'd been running a 64-bit client.

Also, CPDN doesn't have any 64-bit applications at this point, so if CPDN isn't immediately crashing, he would have 32-bit libraries installed even if had been running 64-bit BOINC-client.

Now, this doesn't solve whatever problems he's having, but atleast it shows a couple points that aren't an issue.

Re: All my WU's end immediately with "Output file xx for task xx absent"...

It's probably how your client identifies itself, the platform, with WCG. What's the new startup log saying... anonymous?

There is nothing wrong with the way his client is identifying itself. The client checks the platform against all_projects_list.xml when using the dropdown box. At the time of this writing, Berkeley is sending out nothing for WCG's platforms, so even Windows machines will get the platform not supported message.

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/projects.php

Scroll down to WCG and look under the column "Supported Platforms". It is blank, meaning if a client has updated it's all_projects_list.xml since this change, the client doesn't see WCG as supporting any platforms if the user tries to attach using the dropdown box.

Typing WCG's url into the attach box will still result in the message, but you can proceed to attach anyway.
