The only reference in the Synaptic Manager to ia32 is for Intel micro-code and a graphical boot menu for ia32 EFI system.
----------------------------------------I'll check the wiki now From the wiki I ran the sudo for all the libs sudo apt-get install ia32-libs libstdc++6 libstdc++5 freeglut3 All seems OK EXCEPT the ia32 libs - they are not found. What a mystery - maybe I should install for 64 bit Linux!!! [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 28, 2009 11:40:12 AM] |

What a mystery - maybe I should install for 64 bit Linux!!! Sorry, I had not yet seen your message log when I started this ia32-libs story (we posted at about the same time)...This library is for 64-bit installations, so it is normal you don't see it in Synaptic. Yes, if you are willing to do it you should install the 64-bit version of Ubuntu, your machine will be more efficient. And it will be easier for me to help you.... Read you later. Hi Jean - sorry but I can't cut over to 64 bit (it's a work constraint). I tried uninstalling (completely) and then reinstalling from scratch - all went well, but results are unchanged.
I have cut back to Windows for the moment, and will try again tomorrow. Please post any ideas you might have, and I'll try them first thing tomorrow. Many thanks Raul |

Hi Raul. If you are using a 32 bit OS, then it's not the ia32-libs that you are missing. However, the general approach is correct - it is likely you are missing a dependency.
I recommend you run ldd on one of the executables that was downloaded by BOINC from WCG. You have downloaded wcg_hcmd2_maxdo_6.14_i686-pc-linux-gnu - check that one first. (It should be in /var/lib/boinc-client/projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org ) The other useful thing you can do it to look at the error log for one of the failed tasks. |

Good morning folks - interesting situation - I don't have the necessary permission to view the projects (or slots) folder (and I am the only user defined on the system). Both folders seem to be empty. Where to now?

If you were permitted to install the software, then we'd expect you to be permitted to see the data_dir... may explain a thing or 2. Suggest you reinstall and choose the option to put the data dir in your user accessible area and making sure to tick the box 'all users...'.

Hi Sekerob - thanks for your help. The Synaptic Package Manager does not give me the options to decide where to put the files, or which users will have access. I guess I am gong to have to learn more about Linux/Ubuntu - there are a lot of differences.
----------------------------------------I did a complete removal of both boinc client and manager and then a re-install. There was not project folder at this stage. I then started boinc manager, attached to the grid and the first WU came down and ended with a computational error. There is now a project folder (which I cant access) but it seems to be empty. How do I get to dictate where to put the files? [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 29, 2009 7:27:05 AM] |

The regular installer allows this, certainly under Windows and am surprised the SPM version does not have such an option. But, if you open up the BOINC manager, are you attached to WCG and do you have jobs at all in the queue?
----------------------------------------Did you to that ldd command and look up a result error log on the Result Status page. Please post content for a more exacting error report.

This is from the Result Status for one of the Computational Error WUs:
Result Log Result Name: CMD2_ 0072-SOS1A.clustersOccur-3D0G_ A.clustersOccur_ 19_ 1-- <core_client_version>6.2.18</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <message> process exited with code 210 (0xd2, -46) </message> <stderr_txt> INFO: Initializing Platform. start_timer_thread(): pthread_create(): 11[ERROR] Initializing BOINC failed. BOINC error: 11: </stderr_txt> ]]> I cant run the ldd as I cant get into the projects folder (which seems to be empty anyway) |

You confirmed to still be attached to WCG and have work?
----------------------------------------By coincidence this 210 error had a first report in another thread, then a few more: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...ad,26642_offset,10#250664 Could be a busted disk or just plain permissions. Maybe your admin can help with that. [wonder if this is a Ubuntu 9.04 thing?
