Recommended settings for processor usage

Just wondering if there is recommended settings for the use at most x% CPU time for specific processor types?

I have a desktop with a 1.80 GHz Core2 (80%) and a laptop with 1.40 GHz Celeron (60%). Both machines are on 24/7.

Any desktop should work fine at 100%. You can try the laptop at 100%, but if you think it is getting too hot, go back to 60%.
