Re: Enough is Enough

The admins here should start campaigning at theforce.net forums.
Huge user base there, they could -easily- bring more output than any of us including /.

Re: Enough is Enough

In other news, it's somewhat disappointing to see that SAKU still has to put "rather than a few drug companies" in parentheses when it's been made painstakingly clear that all the results produced by the World Community Grid are done for non-profit institutions and those same results are required to be put in the public domain for anyone to look at.

Most of us are here to supply our spare CPU time and do some crunching, we hope, for the good of humanity (rather than a few drug companies).

Sounds to me like you need to go back to grade 3 or 4 and learn to understand sentences again.

He said he was here for the good of humanity RATHER THAN DRUG COMPANIES. I.e he is folding here for all of humanity. As opposed to joining a folding program run by a drug company.

So the fact it has been "made painstakingly clear" is the whole reason he is here in the first place... thus it is perfectly valid for him to mention his motivation for folding.

Re: Enough is Enough

This thread seems to have gotten a little off topic... since the original question was:

Would the Admins care to comment on TW and MOTs little feuding and crap in the Canada thread?

So yes, I'll comment. The feuding, etc. is inappropriate for the Team forum and team Canada's thread. All postings in the Forums must follow the forum rules. In case you missed those, there right here. If you haven't already, READ THEM NOW.

That said, let's remember this: We're here to contribute to humanity. And while some people (we all know who they are) might say rude things to me for saying that, it really is the point of this whole thing. If you want to make fun of other teams in order to recruit more members, there are tons of free forum websites out there. You can start your own team forum (as many teams have, in fact, done) and say whatever you want on there. While you're on World Community Grid forums, though, keep in mind that everyone is here to help cure diseases, or otherwise enrich the lives of everyone in the world. Even if they came here to try to "take down" another team, they are helping the world (whether they like it, or whether they care, or not).

Actually TW has not yet stopped saying it was here for the good of folding itself. I don't know of any team that has. So i can't really see the value of your post. But, that is no surprise.

However i will add this. WCG has points to encourage rivalry. Both between members and teams. If you would like to stop teams being competitive and stop making fun of other teams weirdnesses remove the points. It is the prime motivator of people making such comments on the WCG forums (other teams for the most part don't visit the TW forum, and as such WCG is the logical place to make a portion of such comments, or there would not be the rivalry).

Remove the points = Stops Rivalry that everyone seems to think is so evil

No Points = Competitive teams all go to other folding and related distributed computing projects which also benefit mankind. WCG Dies.

The rivalry is a big part of WCG whether you like it or not... and its going to continue. It is going to continue to be done by TW who are a team who is motivated primarily by the good it does for all man kind. Insinuating that we are not here to contribute to humanity just shows how ignorant you are.

Re: Enough is Enough

I Think most people are here primarily for the good of humanity. let's face it we have almost all have lost loved ones to a genetic disease at some point in our lives. Me, I lost a wonderful 32 year old sister-in-law to a rare form of breast cancer. Also lost a cousin to brain cancer. not to mention almost losing my mother to Hodgekins disease when i was younger. I also remeber a neighbors young daughter lose a long battle with leaukemia. Seeeing a 7 year old completely bald and in constant pain is pretty tough.

so if in the future you think I am here for the e-penis, you are wrong, i believe deeply in this sort of charity. It costs me pennies and can yield so much more than a direct donation to overbloated over managed charity.

Also, if they can identify the gay gene, who knows what can happen from there........................................................j/k

Hi Nels
I feel compelled to defend Beren here as I commented on the fact that he should not tar all the MOT members with the same brush, to which he was very polite in responding with a very positive comment about a number of MOT members and agreed with my comments
There was no fued or resentful remarks made in the Team Canada thread by Beren and the situation is being blown out of proportion
Please give the majority of the TribalWar members credit where credit is due as their comoradrie has done the world of good for the WCG

Re: Enough is Enough

The point of my post was just to say that the competitive nature that you claim is inherent in the points system at World Community Grid should kept between team members in a teams respective Team thread, or else take place in the Chat Room forum.

World Community Grid does not condone competitive posts on the forums, but as long as they abide by the forum rules, we have no real right to delete them. Posts of a competitive nature that violate the rules of the forum will be deleted.

If you want to post things of a competitive nature that do not fit within the rules of the forums here, then you can start your own forum.

I hope that makes my point more clear. And I hope my sentences were well formed.

If you don't know who they are then you must be above the fracas that has taken place in the forums recently. I applaud you for rising above (or else having the ability to ignore) the chaos to recognize the true reason that we are all here.

No.. this thread cites a burning canadian flag... This thread (the one you are posting in) was posted by someone who passed judgment on that post i made without reading it or the surrounding posts to see the context.
