Core i7 920 Clock Speed: 2.66 GHz QuickPath Interface speed: 4.8 GT/s (gigatransfers per second) Multiplier Lock: Yes Prices : $284 920 is the best buy on an i7. GTS makes no difference for WCG and RAM 1600 is considered the sweetspot. If the bios is unlocked you can overclock to improve performance, typically without increasing voltage (which even if needed is easy to do as they are just settings in the BIOS). I can unvolt mine and still achieve the same performance as 965 (which has since gone out of manufacturing) and just about matches the i7 975 EE. Steve |

Thank you for the advice Sekerob.
My screen saver is off, my CPU usage for all 8 jobs is 100% and constantly at 100% and my BOINC Manager Activity menu setting is on Run Always and I also installed a battery backup (APC - UPS) just in case the electricity should go off for a short period of time my system will keep running for about 30 minutes on the "APC - UPS". The version of Bionic Manager that I am running is 6.2.28 and it's running on a new 64 bit Vista Computer. This "version" of Bionic Manager seems to be running great on it, so far. Again, thank you for the advice Sekerob and you and everyone else, have a "good night". Bob_F |

Ok, I finally ordered an alienware. When it arrives, maybe someone can help me overclock it (just a little maybe 10 percent)

You bet ... just let us know once you have it up and running ... what did you get for a CPU and memory? Can you post a link to the PC on their website so we can take a look at the specs?

Glad I did it then, cuz I woulndt have now! Roughly I want to overclock it to 2.93 (I think that's the next jump up) and 1600MHZ on the RAM. Not a lot just enuf to give me a shot at Blue on CEP ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Jack007 at Sep 1, 2009 4:33:55 AM] |

Nice rig ... as for the shot at sapphire ... badges are based on the amount of time crunching and not points. Becuase overclocking requires you to do lots of stress testing (minumum of 3 hours and if it fails you have to rejigger and test again) to make sure your system can handle everything I would suggest you plug it in and start crunching immediately and work on overclocking when we get out of the badge rush mode. That being said, the typical i7 920 chip can OC much higher than 2.93 without increasing voltage at all but we can address that when you want to. I will say that you probably will not be able to take your 1333 RAM all the way to 1600 but that is OK as it has much less to do with crunching speed than the raw GHz of your processor. Keep us posted
----------------------------------------![]() {edit} just read uplinger's post ... looks like only 14.5 days of new CEP WUs to distribute so I would definately say plug it in and start crunching immediately. Make sure HT is on so you can crunch 8 days for 1. From a points perspective you don't get a complete 2 to 1 conversion (there are only 4 physical cores after all) you will get +30% more crunching done.{/edit} [Edit 1 times, last edit by Steve WCG at Sep 1, 2009 4:40:30 PM] |

I find www.xtremesystems.org a great resource for overclocking information.
I believe they have a team here also. |

www.xtremesystems.org ... yes, and we would be more than glad to help ... there is a subforum for WCG ... just stop by and let us know what BIOS /motherboard you have and we should be able to get you OC'd in no time :-)
