that's not too bad!
though money's tight this year, if I get the same job I had this summer....I'll definitely do it next year....with the six core. got a friend that's loaded with old computer parts, and sure he has extra cooling stuff too. |

MM - I am looking forward to upgrading i7 to hex ![]() Me too, heard that I'm getting "something special" soon.. six core chip at ..nah, you wouldn'tbeleive me.. What i want is a pair of 6 core Gulftowns to knock off that 32 core Opty from the #1 position. If they scale like the Gainestowns then 2-6 core chips will beat that 32 core system easily.. Thanks Bob_F, good weekend to you also.. Humm you left me curious...when it will happens and in what way... I'm hungry to get one fantastic machine like you mentioned, but until now I got just gossips in the media about it, and real silent from Intel, and a huge lack of solid information once it could impact sales of actual processors platarforms available... but I wonder to know exactly when it will be launched to mortals like me buy it... Is there something that you know that could be great to share with us about Gulftowns with 6 cores with HT and so on ... ? ![]()
Cheers ! GIB@

The one thing that will be interesting to see is the heat output from 6 cores on one cpu and if the current generation of heatsinks can handle it. My W5590's at 3458mhz with TRUE's on them run at 61C in a 74-76F room in a case with the side off. I know people that run nehalem cpu's into the 80C range but that I think is pushing things too far.. To me if it hits 65C you need better cooling and from the TRUE's your really left with water cooling if the 6 cores pump substantially more heat. ![]() |

Ok, so today I'm goin to Future shop, they have a "VIP" sale (supposedly everyone is working, in suits and they're having a limo there. Now if they were serving free drinks....)
----------------------------------------So i looked up some I7 stats Core i7 965 Extreme Edition Clock Speed: 3.2 GHz QuickPath Interface speed: 6.4 GT/s (gigatransfers per second) Multiplier Lock: No Prices : $999 Core i7 940 Clock Speed: 2.93 GHz QuickPath Interface speed: 4.8 GT/s (gigatransfers per second) Multiplier Lock: Yes Prices : $562 Core i7 920 Clock Speed: 2.66 GHz QuickPath Interface speed: 4.8 GT/s (gigatransfers per second) Multiplier Lock: Yes Prices : $284 Prob old pricing (and US too I'm in Canada) but the gigtransfers is what interests me...Only the 965 is faster. Is the gigatransfer rate something that would help WCG? I'm leaving in 4 hours to check out this sale so I'll check back before I leave see if any of you are up yet (still up etc in various parts of the world) Oh and the RAM say DDR3 1066 up to 1600 I'm reading, is that significant for WCG? Yes that's all this machine will run I have my gaming quad set up already. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Jack007 at Aug 24, 2009 11:25:33 AM] |

How is everyone finding out how many points their individual devices are producing in one day?

I still don't understand how to maximize production. I have the settings to "max", but it obviously is not producing "max". [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 24, 2009 12:01:10 PM] |

Is you BOINC Manager Activity menu setting Run Always?
----------------------------------------If your screensaver is on, switch it off so you can monitor? Open the Task Manager on the Quad and look in the Performance tab. Is the load constant or up and down?

Core i7 920 Clock Speed: 2.66 GHz QuickPath Interface speed: 4.8 GT/s (gigatransfers per second) Multiplier Lock: Yes Prices : $284 920 is the best buy on an i7. GTS makes no difference for WCG and RAM 1600 is considered the sweetspot. If the bios is unlocked you can overclock to improve performance, typically without increasing voltage (which even if needed is easy to do as they are just settings in the BIOS). I can unvolt mine and still achieve the same performance as 965 (which has since gone out of manufacturing) and just about matches the i7 975 EE. Steve |
