Re: FA@H Project Badge Recognition thread

Good move. Individually each of you can see how many wu's are in cache and you can estimate when to "no new tasks" but for Tom and for msxfr you can already go to <1/2 day at the very least

Much more of a guess is Dom as we don't have latest info but I think he needs 97 days less any pv as of the midnight update so that would be lunchtime Tuesday (1.47 days as of the midnight update not including pv's)

EDIT: You are correct AS as these rigs now show as working for others. Not sure why detaching did not clear these.

Seoulpowergrid: No everybody is good. Back to your own account as you clear caches now.

Eric: are you still good?

EDIT: Sorry Dom I missed you post above

Re: FA@H Project Badge Recognition thread

OldChap, thank you very much for your attention :)
Yes, I'm fine. Tonights update showed up 19:332:20, thus ~22 days missing.
With 96 cores crunching it should be done right now. I started cancelling wu on my android and the two amd devices this morning. The servers have enough wu in cache.

Re: FA@H Project Badge Recognition thread

Good to hear Eric. Aborting is not such a bad thing just now perhaps as there will be others that will be glad of the work.

It looks like Tom's team did 168 days yesterday leaving 113 days to do not including pv's of at least 14 days as at the midnight update

Re: FA@H Project Badge Recognition thread

As this all draws to a close and now that I have had my morning coffee I would like to offer some thoughts about Badge Hunting.... but first a question:

Should this have been done is a separate thread?

The way this was done needs a lot of co-ordination and it is easy to loose track so I have a proposal.

The person requiring help should do their own recruitment and management and MUST do at least a daily update showing total, days needed and pages of pv.

It might work like this.... I have xxxx total Years, days on wcg. I have xxxx total Years, days on this project. I have xxxx cores running 24/7 there are ddd days until end of project so I need xxx cores to help for dddminus2 days.

A request such as this would mean that individuals can commit the correct number of cores for the duration and not keep swapping where their machines are working. the target day for completion would be known from the outset. It would also mean that a helper can look up runtime independently on the member comparison page.

If the end date changes or there are other issues it is easy to re calculate and if necessary ask for more help. It is unlikely that the number of cores offered will be an exact match so there is an element of safety in having a few extra cores running.

So, what do you think, is this a better way?

Re: FA@H Project Badge Recognition thread

Unminced: Think it a [fill in the blank] of the whole 'did it myself' badge show-off in the forum margin. The weak key was never intended to be used for 'reward' like programs, but hey, this is creative use. And Yes, this 'should' have entirely stayed in the 'Pay it forward' thread.

Re: FA@H Project Badge Recognition thread

Yee-Haw! There it is: My first diamond 20 biggrin

My Androids are now switched to OET to go for diamond 10 and the x86 stuff is set to MCM for hopefully completing diamond 20 before project ends.

Re: FA@H Project Badge Recognition thread

As of the latest update,
FightAIDS@Home 7,727,614 31,497 4:316:13:12:34
IP = 178 pages ==> 83.4 days @ 45 min per job
PV = 31 pages ==> 14.5 days @ 45 min per job

49 days until the 5 year diamond with 97.9 days still coming in the que. It looks like I don't need any more new jobs to finish up and that I should see the new badge on tonight's update. Thank you all for the help.

It was interesting to see this world wide community cooperate to achieve specific goals. Some people took a coordinating role and other shared their resources.

A few thoughts. Something like this had never occurred to me as I had thought like SekeRob in that this was an "I did it myself" badge. I run only 1 small computer and never expected to see a diamond. I was attempting to gain the FAAH diamond by myself and the end date moved up dramatically. I saw the offer for help and asked since I was relatively close by still too far away. My personal goal in the recent years was to get 2 years for all newer projects and I will continue to do that for UGM and OET. It will take me a while to get there. And, I am totally amazed at the computing power that some of you have. Although I will be very happy to see the diamond for FAAH, I don't expect to ever see another. But, it was the teamwork shown here that was the thing that struck me the most. Maybe this was not the original intent of the badge system but it was fun. Thanks again. Tom
