I'm not sure what the actual formal process is that gets a person appointed as a Community Advisor but I don't recall ever seeing any public discussion of who to choose. I'd like to recommend that the WCG admins offer it to Jean Pierre! (Yes, I did check with him to make sure he would be okay with my starting this thread). Yes, he said he's not that technical but you don't really need to be a computer savant to be a CA. With the many common questions addressed in the FAQs, most of the time, helping a poster in a forum is pointing them to the appropriate FAQ. Most importantly, a CA is typically the most common "public face" of WCG us crunchers see and can be largely responsible for how we view WCG and its admins, or at least setting our first impression. Jean Pierre is always friendly and polite and I think would represent WCG well. He is active in many of the forums too. As icing on the cake, being from Chile, he would add to the global nature of WCG by bringing a Latin American perspective to the CA ranks. What do the rest of you think?

Not sure how it works or who does the deciding, however Jean Pierre has always been a gentlemen to me and helpful when needed. I am sure he is a good man and know he is a good friend! |

If Jean Pierre (or anyone) wants to be a CA, all they need to do is start doing the job.
Currently, Jean Pierre seems to be mostly active in the team threads and chat room. I think we all enjoy his contribution. Jean Pierre, if you want to start answering questions and helping new members as well, go for it. I know you do this occassionally anyway. |

If Jean Pierre (or anyone) wants to be a CA, all they need to do is start doing the job. Who makes the decision to change his moniker in these fora to acknowledge JP as a CA? I think crunchers would find it helpful to know that he has been included as one of the trusted CAs. |

It's not quite that easy, astrolab. Once someone starts doing the job, they (eventually) get approached by the staff. The path to becoming CA can take many months.
Current CAs and staff are always on the lookout for potential CAs, but members are welcome to make suggestions, too. http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/Community_Advisors |
