Re: Computers used for crunching...

pirogue...that is some crunching power you got there. Is the Q6600 OC'ed?

No, it's stock. The memory that I have doesn't want to cooperate and I'm saving for an i7 and hoping I can sweet talk my wife. biggrin

The first 2 are work PCs. #1 is my day to day workstation. #2 is my old workstation. The rest are at home.

Re: Computers used for crunching...

Dang it. I just had to check the Newegg Deals of the day page. Now I'm torn. I might have to change my mind about what to get to replace the single-core Athlon and get one of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131378 + 2 xeons instead of an i7.

In all fairness it's a bit early to get an i7. There's some pretty cool new features but you definitely pay for them.

I'm looking to replace an old socket 939 Athlon. I know it will cost a little more, but whenever I buy a new mobo/CPU combo, I try to get something near-cutting edge that will last several years. With a socket 1366 mobo, I should be able to keep it for a while and possibly upgrade the processor a couple of times before retiring it. I'm willing to pay a little more for longevity. I'm definitely not talking about $500+ for a mobo and $1000 for an i7-975 extreme.
