If you have one task file that will not download, whilst others before and after were received in good order and uploading other/prior completed tasks works fine and a typical message log appears as follows:

Go to the Tasks window of BOINC Manager (Advanced View), select the file having the problems [1] , showing either a back off or deferred download counter and hit the Retry Now button [2] in left margin and if even after booting the computer it will not go, do click the Abort Transfer button [3] too. The task will be cleared and marked on the Result Status page as aborted and reassigned to another volunteer's computer.



Occasionally the task refuses to disappear, then also go to the Tasks tab [4] , select the task refusing to download completely and hit the Abort button in left margin.
