BOINC: Tray Icons and their Status indication

There are 3 known icons indicating 4 different client operating conditions.

  • First one regular is for the normal operation. When hovering with mouse over the icon, it will show a balloon with the device name of the client the BOINC Manager (BM) is connected to plus the number of science processes running.

  • The second icon has 2 meanings,
    • The client was snoozed for 60 minutes or
    • The computations by the currently connected client [local or remote] are permanently suspended. The number of processes that were running before the suspension or snoozing are shown.

See FAQ BOINC: Pause, Snooze, Suspend and Resume processing Manually or Automatic for more on the subject on temporarily or indefinitely interrupting the science computations.
  • The third and fourth icon indicate that the BM front end is trying to connect or is not connected to a client [local or remote]. A red dot with white rim indicates this (prior client versions may show a red shield with yellow dot in center, right bottom of the tray icon). Also when the BM is expanded on screen, the status bar shows an network icon with an red X and the word Disconnected or Connecting To... as exampled in the picture above.

With client 6.12 the tray icons and descriptions change to show per the sample below from a multi-core device:

NB: Icons shown are those coming with the World Community Grid skin for the client.
