Hello,
----------------------------------------I have a problem with one of my computers. When new WU starts it errors out with this message: <core_client_version>6.2.28</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <message> too many exit(0)s </message> <stderr_txt> Failed to get VersionInfo size: 1812 Can't acquire lockfile - exiting FILE_LOCK::unlock(): close failed.: No error Bold text is present maybe 30 times. When I watch it and restart computer before WU errors out WU normally starts. This happens on FLU WUs cos computer is crunching only FLU. But I assume this would happen on all projects. OS: WinXP, Firewall: NOD4. Boinc is clearly installed on computer (new notebook DELL) and is running under restricted account. I found some info on web but didnt help. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by mito7 at Jun 16, 2009 12:34:13 PM] |

Very probably you have a security problem through NOD4. You need to exclude the BOINC data directory, see you client message log for location, from scanning. It's a sand boxed area, so there is no risk doing that. Security software does not like BOINC communications and frequent disk writing.
----------------------------------------Too many exits Is NOD4 in learn mode? It should pop up a request to permit the BOINC and WCG processes you see in the taskmanager, temporary or permanent. Instead it is probably just silently blocking.

It is not in learning mode. But I cant find a firewall log to see what the problem is. I tried it first. However I try to put it to learn mode and/or exclude BOINC directory from scanning. Thanks Sek. ![]() |

With emphasis on BOINC data directory! Yeah I know But as I see now it is an intermittent problem. Some WUs starts normally some doesnt. So I am a little bit confused. No matter, I try to resolve it somehow. ![]() Thanks for help. ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by mito7 at Jun 16, 2009 8:24:55 AM] |

Are you saying some FLU jobs just pass without the issue? Heuristic functions in security software are nice and a pain. It could be seeing patterns it 'guesses' are not right and blocks a transaction. BUT, lock file hints at a conflict. The science software wants to write and NOD4 grabs it to do a scan.

Some jobs are pass w/o this issue. Should I turn off heuristics? ![]() |
