Sorry I haven't been in here for a bit. I have found that Fresh Diagnose gives me fairly consistant results. The processor speed remains constant and WhetStone and DryStone measurements seem to stay within a range of 15 to 20 percent of one another. I have not run this on an empty system as WCG, Yahoo IM, Windows Messenger, and Skype are running. Additionally, my antivirus software and Microsoft Antispyware are running. You have not noticed any processes taking up a lot of resource from your earlier statements. The degradation over time makes me think of a couple situations I found on systems that friends of mine were having due to spyware. Are you running any programs to prevent and clean spyware off of your system? Two that I am familiar with are Spybot Search and Destroy Free Edition (download at http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10122137.ht...ubj=dlpage&tag=button) and Microsoft Antispyware (Beta) (download at http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx). |

I'm not sure what is happening on your particular system. However, the agent runs some sort of quick benchmark, each time it communicates with the server to get new work. It might be that right at this time, something else is triggered to run for a short time. For example, if you have a virus checker which scans every file written, it might be invoked and be checking the new downloaded work data or newly assembled data file to be returned at the same time that the quick benchmark is running. Or, the software firewall might be doing something similar. Also, a spyware checker might come alive at that point. So, this is just speculation, but might explain some of this if something else runs while the benchmark runs. The system is super clean as far as installations of software, just windows xp pro. The computer isnt used for internet browsing so thier is no spyware or virus cheakers. No gaming either. Just basicly runs windows and wcg agent. I do have throttle watch and fresh diagnose on thier. I have noticed the fresh diagnose benchmarks going way down when it attempts a benchmark with wcg running. So yes another cpu intensive app would cause the processor score to go down. Throttle watch has shown no throttling back of the cpu due to heat etc. It also gives a pretty good indication of physical and virtual cpu use. It shows physical cpu at 50 percent but also shows the virtual cpu as quick spikes using as much as 25 percent for short periods of time. I will watch when the next upload occurs and see if cpu usage is at 0 for both processors while the wcg benchmark is running. |
