Forum suggestion

Ive has problems in the past to do with linux machines. These sort of problems do not easily fit into any of the forums. I suggest that there be 3 new forums added: Linux, Windows and Mac. That would make it easier for people to access the information they require for their specific computer setup and not have to sift through the multitude of posts from wherever the post was posted.

Re: Forum suggestion

I hear you, but in what forum section? Fear many common problems will end up being replicated in multiple forums, more sifting and duplicate answering for the windows person is not likely to look in the linux forum, let alone the mac users looking in the windows forum ;>)

Anyway, it's how to structure / organize the forums so that the OPs get drawn up in the most applicable forum. There are many already which we let be but really should have a move to another forum.

But, the title is the flag of the post. Way to many of the "need an answer" or "it's not working". They get the "lets put these in the dugout for a bit" sticker (giving members a chance to answer before a WCG tech or a CA minces the words for a reply)

PS. I'm though still in favor of a Techie forum and given they are actually working on the forum upgrade, hope they see the moment as an opportunity to restructure/augment the topical forums offered :D

So much for a sunday morning after coffee and other things to do

Re: Forum suggestion

Hello everyone,
I think that a forum for Linux, Windows and Mac would be a good idea.
The Problem of topic duplication could be solved, if the administrators had the technical possibility and the right to move tags from one section to another.
I think that they should also have the right to make Topics more "speaking".

In my opinion, a topic is speaking, if it really reflects the topic the message body talks about.

To be honest, delicately speaking not all users care about choosing a good topic.

Unfortunately, this thoughtlessness has the consequence, that if you are using the forums search machine, you do not really get good results.

If adminsitratiors could change topics and sort tags into forums, there might be a better order in the forums.

The tags would be better sorted.

But of course, I do not know, whether the admins have the time to sort tags and give them speaking topics if necessary.

The author of the tag, which has been renamed or resorted by one of the admins, should automatically receive an information about this fact by e-mail
I ask for opinions what my you, my fellow users think about the forums search machines results as they are at the moment
Greetings
Martin Schnellinger

Re: Forum suggestion

"Experts" find their way and pull hair if the found thread is longer than 1 page. Anyone starting on the forums... you are all forgiven for the first 50 posts ;>)

Anyway, the new forum software is massaged, configured, tested as we speak, no go live date, so let's hope it comes with a good "advanced" form with and/or/not, incl/excl./boolean options and the ability to always jump to the post wanted, not the start of a thread.
