smile Referral Badges

I wonder if it would be a good idea to offer badges for the number of new people referred as well as runtime. Not sure whether this would result in an increase in members or not but the people who are spreading the word would at least be recognised for their efforts.

Re: Referral Badges

There is or was someone who tracks referrals in statistics... the undisputed leader/leaderess =PiA= showing 1152 clicks.

A referral badge has been suggested here in past as were points, but did not follow the discussion closely.

Re: Referral Badges

i think that it is a bad idea cause i know some people who would just make up fake accounts as many as were needed to get the referal badge and then run each one of them for the minimum time to get the badge for the real account.

they would make extra data about accounts and information that would be stored

no im not saying eveyone would do this but there are enough that would that it would expand the database of useless information and would thow off statistics

again this is my own opinion

Re: Referral Badges

Instead of badges how about creating your own referral system by using the team functions of WCG and have all the people you refer join that team ... that way you will create a slightly smaller, tighter sub community and never feel lost in the sea :-)

Re: Referral Badges / Spreading the World /breaking the barrier between paper/media world and internet

Hello everyone,
I just want to tell you, how you can easily spread the world with the knowledge that
Worldcommunitygrid is existing.
If I want to promote for example cancer projects, I give the word "cancer" (in German Krebs, in Polish rak) in a search engine (for example Google). It then finds me a lot of foundations, societies, state institutions. I then search their web pages for their e-mails and write an e-mail to as many of them as possible.
In this e-mail I explain what Worldcommunitygrid is, how grid computing works, that it is safe and does not interfere with the normal work on the computer, that you can choose how much power you want to give.
But I must admit that I do not often get an answer.
Maybe I should write letters in paper???
But then I would have to pay for stamps......
I must admit, that it is really hard to break the barrier between paper world and internet.
My dream would be that under each article about cancer for example in the New York Times would be a little hit "You too can help the fight against cancer, just join Worldcommunitygrid.

Well, I am in Germany, one day I will try to convince a famous newspaper to inform their paper readers about Worldcommunitygrid. But maybe someone who reads this has got good connections to the New York times editor? I mean it serriously, no joke.

Another posibility would be scientific programs on TV. Sometimes I am sad about it, that a lot of money and transmition time is spent on ridiculous studies of the type " How many times a day flees do have sex", and there is apperently no transmission time for Worldcommunitygrid.
And what about internet portals and services like Facebook or Youtube.
They send out e-mails generated outomatically to their newly registered members.

It would cost them nothing to attach an hint at the and of the mail "Youtube fights against cancer and supports Worldcommunitygrid. Youtube has allowed his or many of his employees to install BOINC on their office desktops. We encourage you to join Worldcommunitygrid.org, to, and to ask your employer whether you can install BOIC at work.
Another protmotion possibility are petitons to parliaments in your home countries.
All the best to everyone
Martin
