I went out of town this last weekend. When i returned both of my xp machines would not connect.
one said cannot connect to core client the other said Downloading new work unit from project servers BUT: windows changed something internally recently so now there is no "update when i tell you to setting" i now have to get every update within 7 days of its release. I think this BS is what caused my comp to stop connecting right. (maybe they messed with my firewall settings) whatever they did, it UN-did all my settings and now they wont connect. Any ideas? |

Rebooted. Worked for 3 min scrapped the flu unit and said unable to connect.
----------------------------------------BUT windows did create and manage a firewall without my permission. (it had previously been set by me to "Off (not recommended)" Microsoft update violated my computer. They will say I agreed to it, but I did not. Agreement via proxy (eula) is not good enough. (they also state they can change the terms eula at any time? BS!) Why do they even include the setting in the options if they are going to alter it without permission. bottom line, find a linux build you like. Shinobi Gaiden, I think Microsoft are tired of Windows computers being used for botnets because they aren't secured properly.
You can use any firewall you like, but you need to use one. |

For me the Windows Defender and Symantec Antivirus play very nicely with BOINC. No problems here. Not sure if I had to add the BOINC processes to the Windows Defender approved list. It's been too long to remember.

After much futile tinkering, I found that on the 5th re-installation attempt (4 were "interrupted") I was able to get a new copy running (and keep the old data).
I'm really mad Microsoft was the one hijacking my computer. Its not the type of Hijacking you can prevent either. |

It's been too long to remember. Which Symantec Antivirus, and what's your email program? Most of Symantec's Norton series of antivirus programs slowly corrupt the database of the Windows Mail email program that comes with Vista, due to their way of intercepting email going in and out, and will eventually cause problems with that email program. The 2009 version seems to be an exception, though. I've also found that the Windows Defender antispyware program plays very nicely with BOINC, though. Hey all
----------------------------------------i just experienced a very bad experience with Norton. It was default present on my new laptop and a few minutes ago I accepted it to start. Probably it was not running yet. And then it was killing all the tasks of the HCMD2 project, because it thought it contained high risk. I tried to set a rule to ignore this problem, but I could not find a way to fix it. And Boinc tried some new projects and the same happened again. I suspended Boinc for a while and I completely removed Norton. Then I unsuspended Boinc again and I got only a few projects, because of quota. Thanks to #$%@% Norton now my laptop is registed as a bad system, reporting many errors and slowly the buffer might grow again. So I'm very pissed of at Norton software. I forgot to remember what Norton exactly found, but now my Boinc is running normal again
Greetings,
Arjan ![]() |
