Host forgot to communicate with the WCG server

Hi,
just for information, I did experience some troubles last week. One of my hosts forgot to communicate with the WCG server without any failure message.
Indeed, it did not try any connection but it still computed so far. Because I set up a 4 days cache, it was enough available WUs to compute. I tried to force manually a project update without any success. Only a system reboot solved the problems and reported over 100 WUs at once. Since then the host work correctly and accurately again.
I am surprised because the system did not perform any connection try nor did bring any failure message.
The once possible reason is that I did perform a device profile update just before the problem occured. Is it possible that the host did fetch the profile data just at the same time the updated data have been written ? (perhaps is a file lock mechanism not working properly on the WCG server ? ...).
Cheers,
Yves

Re: Host forgot to communicate with the WCG server

Yves, this is extremely strange. If there is a network connection available, BOINC will upload result files and certainly will try to do the Ready to Report acknowledgement if 24 hours have passed.

The stdoutdae.txt file should tell you when the last profile update fetch was done. The current message log also tells with time/date stamp what the profile name in effect is and the last update.

PS. Did we discuss this a few days ago... at 38C real feel the head is not 100% clear.

Re: Host forgot to communicate with the WCG server

Hi Sekerob,
Yes, I know that it looks very strange !
In the past, from time to time, I did experience with another host some connection problems with failure messages.
In this particular case, the host (fromveur) did absolutely not try to connect. Even I tried to force update manually, the host seemed to not react: no message, no activity !
The internet connexion was OK because another host worked and reported fine, using the same internet link.
The host runs boinc 5.10.45 on Win XP Pro 64.
I only wish to inform in case other members would experience a similar scenario. For my-self, it did not cause any problem because the system had enough WUs in the cache (HCMD2 only).
Cheers,
Yves
