Only 2 days 4 hours 55 minutes and 11 seconds the difference between yesterday and the day before. If it's a bounce back the bounce back continues.........
----------------------------------------Congratulations to MikeOD on making the big 1/2 Million glad to see your crunchers are back online :-)) and also a special mention for Lawrence Hardin on becoming the 42nd Member of the 6 digit club. The WCG owes a great deal of it's success to you over and above your contribution simply in points. Each new member with teething troubles always gets your undivided attention. Thanks for this dedication Lawrence. We've made it through 100,000 results back to the ISB and I know that this is what the WCG is all about getting these results so that one day cures and treatments may be found to some of Mankind's worst ailments. By this measure we already have that 4th place. However this stat is just luck of the draw as some work unit take days, even weeks, or just over an hour it's completely random. The other thing about this stat is that it can be erroneous. It's easy to create loads of results just go **********************************************. The other way is to have an ********************************************. Both of these reasons create results but don't do any useful work towards the goal of the project. So although I would like to get excited by the stat I view it with great suspicion (edit - across all teams) By run time we are also 4th but once again this doesn't mean that we have contributed in a similar way as another team with the same run time. 2 days number crunching on a P11 400Mhz doesn't produce as much work as a Athlon 55FX on for 2 days as an example Our team's average PC is about a 2800+ Athlon (which is amazing in itself) whereas the lucky individuals at IBM Rochester would appear to have at least an Athlon 3200+ or the equivalent. So despite the extra 11 years and 89 days that we have done over and above IBM Rochester their PC's have done more calculations towards the goal of the Project. Points are the measure of a team's contribution to the Grid so despite not being so easy to get your head around points are where it's at. So we're still 5th and I must have made an error in my calculations because barring a sudden rush of new team members it's going to be the early hours of Saturday morning before we steal that 4th Place. Any potential new members out there willing to help us make 5th(Edit Opps that should read 4th) tonight Sorry Gang I'm grumpy this morning it's not Friday yet ![]() Keep 'em crunching Dave (Edited as I am alleged to have encouraged cheating amongst members of the World Community Grid. Why any right minded contributor to this excellent project would even think of doing such a thing as it totally defeats the object of the exercise is beyond me (and is also pointless waste of your life and electricity). However so as to not even hold out any reasons why it might be possible to defeat the Results system and not continue to be a valid contributor to the World Community Grid this information has been subsequently censored) Sorry ![]() Dave ![]() [Edit 4 times, last edit by David Autumns at May 26, 2005 8:03:08 PM] |

It's has been brought to my attention that I might have inadvertently maligned my team
----------------------------------------this was not the intention of my previous post I assure you. It is certainly true that as a team we have not created 101,302 valueble results for the ISB. As, to my knowlege, we have a team member who has created a number of results but without creating any points i.e. not producing the absolutely accurate results required for this medical research project. We have tried through this forum and through contact with the IBM Team who have each members email address to contact this team member with the view to offering assistance to this team member which to date has been a failure. (n.b. I do not have access to any team members email details that haven't been forwarded to me directly by that team member- boy I have to choose my words carefully) The true point of my post was that accordingly results are not a reliable benchmark of a teams contribution to the grid whereas run time shows our true commitment and points show our true contribution to the project. Which from this team is truely second to none (apart from those /.ers and TW'ers )Please forgive me if I have caused any offense. Dave ![]() |
