I had Boinc installed on a computer attached to a network, and eventually I updated the software to a later version. I have had to reload all the software on that computer due to a fault. The software is installed across the network. But when I went to install a new version of Boinc, I get this message (yes you have seen it before) Error 1714. The older version of boinc cannot be removed ect. I have downloaded each version of Boinc all the way back to ver.5.9.7 and I still get the error message. I take its a registry setting but I now need help. I want to put Boinc on other computers on the network but I am getting the same error message. Any help would be appreciated. Computers are Intel CPUs from single cores to hyper threading units to Core 2 units. - Tim

Does the Windows Software control panel show BOINC in the list of installed software? Have you run the Windows Installer Clean Up tool? Many thanks for your reply. 1, No, BOINC does not show up as an installed application in Add or Remove Programs. When I said I reinstalled the software across the network I meant the operating system and other essential applications like MS Office ect. BOINC has to be install on my computer within the network as a manual installantion. 2, Yes, I have run Windows Install Clean Up, but Boinc did not show up in the list of application. |

Reinstalling the OS over the old probably blew a few pre existing registry keys. There are tools like TweakNow that include more extensive Registry cleaners. Other option is, to reformat disk and start again. Depends on the time you have to invest.

kiwi53nz, my guess is you originally got BOINC from World Community Grid, so trying the Berkeley installers would be a waste of time.
Instead, go to the installation folder (probably C:\Program Files\BOINC ) and look at the version information for boincmgr.exe, and check the icon. If it is a WCG icon, then you did use the WCG installer. |

If it is a WCG icon, then you did use the WCG installer. I tried both types to no avail. However, I think I have stumbles on the solution. When I login to a computer on our network, it creates a user profile on the machine I'm logging onto. I logged off as myself and logged on a a systemadmin user and deleted my profile from that machine, I then logged into the security software and cleaned up my profile on the server, then logged off as systemadmin and log back on as myself. A new profile is downloaded onto my machine. BOINC was able to complete the installation. However, when I now logon, I get a message from BOINC Manager sayin "A reboot is required in order for BOINC to run properly.", however, when I reboot I get the same mesage. I ran Boinc installation again and chose repair, and rebooted, but got the same reboot message....... |

I was using "wcg_boinc_6.2.28_windows_intelx86.exe". Instead of just doing a repair, I completely unistalled BOINC again and rebooted, I reinstalled 6.2.28 again . I am now crunching again Many thanks for your help, and this goes for other who posted as well. Kind regards Tim (kiwi53nz) |
