Most probably it has been aborted by the server as "not yet started after the second valid result has been received". Check the times of its quorum to see it they are consistent with this explanation. Note that the time it has been aborted is the time when your client first contacted the servers after the quorum had been reached.

Yeah I have a couple of aborted. Looks like they send out 4 then abort the rest when 2 get back!
This seems sad as some do not get to try. Why not send out just 2 initial and give everyone a chance? |

I have just noticed that every one of these that I have downloaded has aborted in the same way (two other replications already completed).
----------------------------------------I have manually suspended other tasks to allow 5 other betas to start. I guess it's now a race to beat my wingmen! Update I see that one result has already been completed and validated. Contrary to previous reports, this particular WU has all four results from the quorum marked as valid. By the time I started crunching, the other three had already been returned! ![]() Crunching in memory of my Mum PEGGY, cousin ROPPA and Aunt AUDREY. Well, they have a deadline of 24 hours for a reason, so to ensure that is met, 4 are send out to get a much greater guarantee for 2 to make up quorum before the No Reply comes on and the beta completion incurring delay. This way the techs have very quick access to intermediate beta results. Older clients would still crunch them and only receive a red message in the log, new clients handle it automatically, by design.

It seems strange that all four results have been validated, especially since mine was started after the other three were completed. ... Last night, WUs were aborted only an hour or so after they were downloaded. A WU is not aborted by the servers if it has already started or if the Boinc client is older than this feature. Most of these WUs were completed in less than one hour, therefore it is perfectly possible that 2 results had been received and validated in less than one hour. Cheers. Jean. |

If your client did not talk to the servers in the interim, it would not have received the instruction to cancel, thus start & complete the result. Given the abort an hour after receipt with run times of under one hour you'd thus see this happening rather quickly... me guessing that client had more than a few as with 24 hour deadline they'd automatically kick into front with high priority marking.

I will check my client logfile when I am back at home next time. I like the idea of speeding up the beta process although I think it is ineffective to send 2x more WUs out than are needed for a valid result. By doing so you will receive a valid result fast but a lot CPU-time will be wasted. How about setting the timelimit to something like 6 hours and send only 2 WUs out? This will also speed up the process and will increase the output of valid results. |
