Hi everyone! Just joined WCG in March after wondering whatever happened to all the grid.org stuff I used to crunch, and very glad to find things in this state.
So the last couple CEP WUs that I've been lucky enough to snag have been testing HUGE coiled molecules, definitely different than the stuff that was coming through last week. Does anyone know what kind of molecules these are? Any chance of changing the graphic so that different atoms are represented by different colors (as in most other Projects) instead of all appearing green? Thanks! |

Hi, I'm not sure the structures allow the individual identification / color coding of atoms, there being too many in different arrangements. Maybe the FAQ permits you to get more insight about what you're looking at: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/projects_sh...Cep1Faq.do?shortName=cep1

I checked there first; unfortunately the FAQ contains strikingly little detail for anyone but the layest of laypeople. But thanks for responding!

Hi,
Thanks for your interest in the molecules we are running! We changed the way we construct the simulation boxes to avoid those pesky errors and you are seeing the result of these changes on the screen saver graphics. A big part of this project is to find out how these molecules pack together. As you have pointed out, the latest molecules pack more densely, which can be easily seen with the single color graphics. Since there are thousands of atoms crammed together, it can get confusing when each one has a color label. Plus, most of the atoms are carbon, so the images were primarily one color already. We thought about using just ellipsoids for the graphics, as is commonly done in coarse-grained models, but thankfully our colleagues at IBM were able to use the atomic coordinates for the screen saver! Sounds like Carbon tubes!
