Re: anti virus programs

A little hint to protect your online surfing and make it nearly a virus and mostly ad free:

Turn off the javascript whenever you enter a site you're not sure of. NoScript is one of the best Firefox tools for doing this. You can mark trusted sites one by one and block all the others. Or the other way round, block only those sites you don't ever want to see scripts from. And when you are doing internet exploring and not always sure if the site is safe, temporarily block all the incoming scripts (and show only trusted ones).

Re: anti virus programs

Yes, NoScript is great. Used together with Adblock Plus, you will be disturbed very seldom.

(We have a Firefox-Addon-Thread in the forum also, with cool tips)

Re: anti virus programs

I have been using "ESET NOD 32" (the 64 bit version). I downloaded this from their site. I also use it along with "Webroot Spy Sweeper" and I have NEVER had any problems with viruses or Trojans. I have 3 "PC's" and they have never been down due to viruses or Trojans.

I have developed a good habit though.

I stay clear of "free" software from unknown sites.

When you download from unknown sites, you may also be downloading a Trojan, a virus, a "Hijacker", etc.

Be very careful. Never download anything from any site that you are not 100% sure that it is a legitimate site. Free software, not always but at times, can be a "killer" on both "MACS", "PC MACS" and "PC's" because that's how some people will try and get viruses or Trojans into your computer.

Also, "free" software downloaded from the Internet may not contain any viruses or Trojans BUT the software may NOT be compatable with your computer's Operating System because of the age of the "free" software or just because of poorly written code within the software and if so, it may cause major problems with the way your computer runs. It may even cause it to reboot, blank out your computer screen, make your computer run extremely slow, etc.

Well, you all have a good night and let us all keep our Computers "Blazing".

Re: anti virus programs

Bob, and how do you define an "Unknown site"?

Re: anti virus programs

Your browser, such as FFX 3.5 and up is very good at forewarning on dicey sites... a screen will pop up "This is suspect ... Take me away Yes / No". They show a colour code on the Site Icon area such as Blue, Green, Yellow, Red.

smile Re: anti virus programs

I use Kasperski security suite since a few years on all my devices and have been very happy with. Never had problems.

Before I used Norton and Mc Afee for some years but had many times problems and stopped with them.
I also tested Panda a few years ago but I got allways a complete blocking of the firewall or very slow dataflow through the firewall. Never understood why after having tried everything and so I dumped it.
