What about reactivating old members? Although the official numbers say we have over 60K members. I would guess that only 2/3's of that number are active. I must stress that is a guess as I have no quick way of varifying that. It would be a simple excersise to compose a mail shot to members who haven't turned in a result for 21 days and have the flag on to allow emails from WCG?
I know some people have left to take their cycles elsewhere but others may need a friendly reminder. CtW |

Changetheworld,
The issue of emailing members has been brought up before, and believe me we have (and are still) considering it. There are many things to take into consideration before sending out mass emails to members who aren't returning results. We are focused right now on other enhancements that will improve the experience of current members (and hopefully keep members from falling off the wagon). |

Got bounced back when trying to send directly to the Head Honcho so I went down the ladder a little bit and got a response.

can someone suggest me if this communty does have any polices about sharing data with organization conducting animal research? i originally cames across this site trying to establish if there is something like this project set up to help those who abandon vivisection. I'd like to ask if you have any concerns about organazations research policies in the matter that i've mentioned. i'd lke to support this project and i have many great possibilities of recruiting new members. however, as a director of a software development company i may volunteer to create similar network software and process data for those not involved in animal research as well as share it with the institutions from your clients who are not involved in testing on animals. could you post any comments on that or email to alex@e-based.com
Best Regards, Alex |

More than slightly off-topic. It would be best to establish a new thread. But a quick answer is to click on 'About Us' where you will read:
World Community Grid is making technology available only to public and not-for-profit organizations to use in humanitarian research that might otherwise not be completed due to the high cost of the computer infrastructure required in the absence of a public grid. As part of our commitment to advancing human welfare, all results will be in the public domain and made public to the global research community. All our results are PUBLIC DOMAIN and may be used by anybody without restrictions. |

Before posting previous message i've actually read relevant sections, including About Us. Please do not get me in the wrong way i'm totally supporting what you are doing, i'm just thinking that the combined computer power out there is enormous, and if made available only to those who do not conduct animal experiments, that may cause the supporters of animal testing to reconsider that's why i'm going to collect further information with intent to set up similar network if it will prove to be such a good idea as i now think it is. may i also bring to your attention that for me it's neither money nor publicity seeking enterprise. I'm happy to do it withing the frame of any suitable body, and i'm prepared to cover soft development cost (provided it's not more than few thousand programming hours) |

This will take the form of a database which is open to anyone anywhere in the world who has sufficent knowledge to acceses it. That is what the term Public Domain means. There are no restrictions as to use and who uses it. In Effect no censureship. A non-public domain database could very well be set-up to censure certain groups i.e. people who do animal type experiments, people involved in genitic engineering, bioengineers etc. But that is not what the World Community Grid does. I guess it is trying to better the world through adding significant amounts of knowledge to the public domain. cheers, |
